Guest book

Justkeepswimming, 26 May, 2016 at 23:36 Posted on Planning 0 13

Ws bought one of those fingerprint guest books, it's the house from the movie "Up"' and the fingerprints make the balloons which keep the house afloat, I thought that was a really cute idea and I love Disney.

my questions are:

1) what should I get for guests to wipe their fingers on so they don't get ink everywhere?! Would a box of tissues look odd?

2) should I buy another more traditional guest book so guests can write their messages to us because obviously we won't know who's fingerprint belongs to who! I know sometimes people initial their fingerprint but I think this ruins the effect of the balloons a bit.

minor details I know but would appreciate your input!

I'm not a fan of fingerprint guest books, precisely because there's nowhere for anyone to write a message so yes, I would definitely buy a traditional guestbook as well.

I think baby wipes would be more effective than tissues, and people would know what it was for as soon as they got ink on their finger!

I absolutely love Up - I'm walking down the aisle to the theme tune on organ Smiley smile

I agree with PP - you need to have something moist to wipe the ink off with - little packs of wet wipes etc.

I think it would be good for you to have a little way for people to leave you a message. We're having a board filled with envelopes, then little cards for people to fill in and put into the envelopes- we'll then open them on our 1st wedding anniversary Smiley smile

I agree with the wet wipes, if you were worried about them looking scruffy (which is what I think you were asking in your original post?), then maybe get one of those plastic tubs of baby wipes, they should be easy to make your own label for!

We ended up having both fingerprint tree, and a standard guestbook.

We did use baby wipes, we bought a back of 72 Tesco value for just under 60 guests and we have loads left, so that should help you with the quantity. If you are worried about not ruining the balloons with names and initials, could you number the balloons, then on a separate piece of paper write balloon 1: <name> so people can write their names on so you will know? Don't know how nice in practise that'd be, but if you are certain you don't want names in the balloons that's one way.

Also, bit of mild warning, I think as they are gaining in popularity people will just write their names anyway, we didn't tell anyone to write their names but they all did. So do think about the logistics of that as well.

I wish we had thought about the Up house, slightly better than ours ?

    Hi,

We had a finger print tree for our autumnal themed wedding. My husbands mother is an artist and she painted the tree for us. You might be able to see that we had a small suitcase on the table and we put packs of make up wipes in them for people to clean their fingers with. We had a bin underneath the table. I found make up wipes better for removing the ink than normal dry tissue. Our guests signed their prints which is lovely as we now have it as a framed piece or art on our walls with all of our guests on there. It didn't leave room though for any messages which a guest book would allow for.

    Good luck with the wedding!

I went to a wedding where there was a fingerprint and it looked so beautiful! Wet wipes were on the table with a little box to put the used ones in next to it. People also added their names to the prints so you'd know who was who's. They also had photobooth and scrapbook so everyone took silly photos and then left a message in the scrapbook, it was a lovely idea. But a traditional guestbook book would work just as well (and is a lot cheaper) Smiley smile

I was thinking of getting a fingerprint picture (I too love the UP one!!! We are having a Disney honeymoon), but I might go with small cards for people to write a message on and then make my own scrapbook once I get the photos back so I can put pictures with the messages Smiley smile

This "Up" guest book looks beautiful! I've seen fingerprint guest books before, but this one is really awesome. I'm helping my best friend with her wedding (she is kinda clueless Smiley smile ) and we were thinking to do something different with the gust book. Do you guys have any recommendations? I really like this hose from Up, but I don't want to steal your idea Smiley laugh

We decided against a fingerprint tree as we probably won't have enough guests to make it work. We are having a a signing frame for our day guests only (don't want drunken evening guests writing rude things on it!) and 'wish tree' for everyone that we will provide little 'luggage tags' with ribbon to match our theme for our guests to write a message on and tie on the tree. I'm planning a 'wedding scrapbook' after the wedding (to keep me occupied as I know I'm going to be bored senseless with no planning to do!!) and will put the tags in there.

We are also having a photobooth in the evening, so hopefully ALL our guests will either sign the frame, leave a note on the wish tree or have a picture taken!
