Guest book alternatives

Purple Pixie, 19 March, 2012 at 14:56 Posted on Planning 0 21

What else could we do instead of the traditional guest book, a wishing tree or signing a photo frame?

None of those really grab my attention but I can't think of any other alternatives.

Thanks, PP x

Polaroid/instant film camera, photo album with photo inserts ready for guests to insert their photos, and various coloured pens for them to add a message!

We are having a post box and postcards from all the places we have been together. We will then make a collage for display in a giant frame we got for our engagement.

We're having our videographer go round and record messages from everyone for our video

We are doing this also except not putting the pictures into a guest book. We're going to ask guests to write a message round the edge of the photo if there's space or if not, stick it onto a pre-prepared larger blank card and write a message. We'll have a big pin board to stick them on at the wedding but I think we'll frame them all going up our stairs or have a big montage in the bathroom! I wonder how much guest books get lifted and looked at in the long term.

This, we are having a photo booth with an album so people can write their messages next to their photos.

We are also doing a photo guest book, however a little differently - we are going to create a photobook (leaving some pages blank) with our engagement shoot photos and ask people to sign that.

We're thinking of getting a poster printed and having guests sign around it, then we can frame it after the wedding.

Will either be using a photo of us from our engagement shoot or my MOH has offered to draw us a picture for the centre (she's a childrens illustrator and is AWESOME!)

We'll be having postcards of some sort, unless I leave it too late to sort then we'll be stuck with a regular ole' guest book!

We weren't planning on having anything like this but on the eve of our wedding my H's cousin gave us our present, a personalised large square plate which everyone signs and adds a message to. You then have it fired to save the text. We've never actually had it fired but don't use it and have it as a keepsake of the wedding.

We had it out on the table at the entrance porch to our marquee in the evening, where guests placed cards and gifts. We also had storm lanterns and candles on the table.

I used to dislike them but actually it was cute and really nice to look back at all the messages after the wedding!

Im doing individual record cards at each place setting for people to write their message and my OH's sister to collect them and put them in with the cards - then i'll be making them into our guest book later on.

Then in the evening we're having a video camera set up so people can leave their messages & links on the night for us Smiley smile x

I'm toying with the idea of having a fingerprint tree and framing it afterwards.

Does anyone know if you can get a guest book anywhere that has places for photos to either slot or be stuck in? I like the idea someone had of making a scrap book with messages and photos, I'm lazy and in creative though and wound much rather buy a ready made book lol

We are using personalised parcel tags as place cards and asking everyone to write a message on the back of theirs. They will then pin them onto our seating plan which is on a cork board. I'll use some of the paper, ink, ribbons etc we have left from our invites to make it all look pretty. All for under £10!

I looked into polaroids, sticking them in a book etc. but polaroid film is not being made anymore so what is still in circulation is ridiculously expensive and almost out of date so you can't guarantee it'll work anyway. I'm sure there are other ways to do photos etc but with everyone taking their own photos and putting them on facebook and commenting, it's like having an online guest book anyway!

I am going to get guests to write on a piece of card and them arrange them myself in a photo album (the self adhesive ones) with photos from the photo booth or day around them - so they are part of the photo album. May make a theme such as 'advice for a happy marriage'.

Figures its something fun for me to do in the post-wedding blues

    How about a wooden puzzle?

I am experimenting myself with these at the moment with an aim to start selling them in the next couple of weeks.

I can make them to any size to suit the number of guests you have. You could even have the guests name on the back so it doubles as a place card. They could just right the message in pen on the other side ?

Please do get in touch if you would like to discuss this as an option or anything else you may have in mind that I would help with *******@****************.**.**

Loving this idea!! may have to pinch it, if I can find a way to work it in -we already have a guest book idea!

We are usiing pretty luggage tags for people t write messages on and getting them to put them in a pirate chest (we have a slight hint of pirate in our theme because of our engagement) I think we will use the chest to keep the tags and cards etc in afterwards.
