Guest Book Idea - Opinions please!

cinnamonfairy, 16 October, 2012 at 16:03 Posted on Planning 0 13

I've been trying to think of something different to do for our guest book at the wedding. As we're having a seaside theme, I had a bit of an idea earlier - just wanted to run it by people on here and see what they think.

I'm thinking about buying a card board cut out, like this:

Then having a polaroid camera of some sort. Then guests could stick the photo in a guestbook, and leave a little message for us.

Is it a bit cheesy? Or would I be better off buying some props and creating a makeshift 'photo booth' and doing the same?

Let me know what you think!

    Hello

Well, honestly, little bit cheesy for me, but if you really like the idea (it is definitely different), then go for it.

I thought you could maybe get lots of different postcards, and each person could write on that, and you could pop them in a guestbook somehow displaying the front and back (maybe making them the guestbook so that you flick through them?)

Hi ACS - we're actually using postcards for the table plan and table names. FIL2B gave us the same suggestion for the guest book, but we don't want it to be too postcard-y if that makes sense? Thanks though!

I don't think it's a bad idea as such, since it ties in with your theme and is a bit of fun. However, my concern would be that all your photos will look the same! Those cut-outs only show faces, not hair or anything that really identifies your guests. Of course you'll know who was who, but looking through the book in future I think they will all seem very very similar and you'll have to actually look to see who was who.

I'd go for a seaside backdrop, with props for people to use in front. You'll get much more unique pictures this way...

    Hope that helps!

    Thanks for the comments!

Barefoot - it completely escaped me that the pictures would look samey. A rethink is in order!

JonCraven - great idea about the backdrop. Will research with OH later. Guess we could also use props to liven things up a bit too!

I agree that the cut out will give you the SAME photos. People make the effort to have a nice outfit, hair, shoes at a wedding & as a guest, I'd prefer a pic that shows me off at my best.

The backdrop is a fantastic idea with props. You could provide chairs if people just want a nice portrait or props for those that want a few quirky shots:

Beach balls, blow-up rings & arm bands, goggles, snorkel, diving fins, a beach chair, towels, & a few potted palm trees. If you could find older style victorian style swim wear that goes over their normal clothes, you might find some people dress up too.

Seaside props sounds like a great idea. Don't forget hankies for the old men to tie on their heads! Maybe some interesting hats and huge sunglasses, or bikini / six pack tshirts could be a giggle for some?

Good idea if the guests use the polaroids for that reason, it could work out expensive otherwise.

One idea used at a wedding last weekend was an envelope of postcards on each table for people to write a message on. These were then pinned onto material going across empty frames with mini pegs.

    Great ideas!

I discussed the backdrop with props idea with OH last night and he loves it!

I think we're gonna see if we can get a tripod to put the polaroid camera on, then this way it might help to restrict people from taking it away and using up all the film on other photos!

    Thanks for all your help!
