Guest book ideas...

daisymoo86, 1 September, 2015 at 12:35 Posted on Planning 0 12

OK so I thought I wanted a heart drop frame guest book but a friend got married at the weekend and said she regrets having that as it just looks messy. The hearts are too small for any real words and people apparently tried to write mini essays on them.

So I need so other ideas please? How about a message in a bottle guest book?

What do we think?

I’m having a drop top guest book and the thought had crossed my mind about the hearts not being very big – however, we have a photo booth and which have double prints and our guests will be asked to stick the second copy into a ‘guest book’ provided by the photo booth so I’m going to leave some pens by the book and it gives people the option to write something a bit longer, if they’d like to, next to their picture. Just a thought in case you’re having a photo booth (as they seem to quickly becoming a wedding regular!) .

What about jenga bricks? People can write all over them and then build jenga too!

A friend of mine had the heart drop box and made fairly similar comments to your friend also. Other than the name there is nothing else that can fit on the hearts and when they are put in the box they drop in different directions so some were upside down which again was something she didn't like but what she found the most annoying was some of the little children at the wedding were fascinated in writing on the hearts and dropping them in and she found about 10 Freddie's and 6 Olivia's in the box haha.

One idea I have seen and though it was lovely was a large (A2 size) photo of the couple taken from their engagement shoot and was mounted and put in a frame without glass and guests were asked to sign around and on the picture.

I have also seen large letters of your initials which can be written on a bit like this. https://www.etsy.com/uk/listing/155814187/monogram-wedding-guest-book-alternative?ref=market.

This was ours from our wedding on Friday; its a photo from our engagement shoot, with the big white boarder for people to sign. Its completely full up of messages, and we'll frame it and put it up on a wall when we get around to it!

My sister is having a heart drop frame but she's only having a small wedding with 40 guests (no children), so can probably trust that people will try and be sensible with what they write etc. I'm doing a DIY photo booth with a polaroid camera & have tasked one bridesmaid with making sure everyone gets a picture stuck in the guest book. I'm hoping it will be fun!

We are going to have a message in a bottle instead of a traditional guest book and we are going to read the messages on our one year wedding anniversary!

We are being boring and having a normal guest book. I just don't see what we'd do with Jenga bricks etc and it's not something I would have on the wall in a picture either. Going on previous guest books at weddings I've been to...the later in the evening they sign the messier it gets!

We were going to have a drop box frame with hearts but worried about the size of the hearts and them looking messy so we had a wooden memory box and brought larger wooden hearts instead so people could write longer messages and pop them in the box. The box is on display in our living room but we dont have to worry about the hearts looking a mess because they can't be seen but they're still at hand to read when we're feeling a bit sentimental.

Lollipops I love your idea, can I ask where you got everything from?

Thanks everyone for all your suggestions, given me quite a few to think about Smiley smile

My friend last year had a pile of paper notes that people wrote on (or some did drawings) and they went into a box. She had cut the paper to the right size and after the wedding put them into a project life book - but essentially any scrapbook or photo album would do the same job.

I think we will end up with a normal guest book, I just like the idea of reading through everyone's messages and would prefer there was plenty of room for people to write whatever they wanted to.

Where did you get the mount from please?

I think we are having something similar to the above for people to just sign, and a small guest book if anyone wants to write a long message. (We are having quite a big wedding) I've also got a box and index cards for people to write a message for us to open on our first anniversary Smiley smile
