Guest Transport

SJM1988, 13 January, 2014 at 12:37 Posted on Planning 0 11

I was wondering what everyones opinions is on guests getting between the church and reception venue. Most/if not all of our guest are staying at the reception venue or near by and the church is a 15 mins drive away. Would anyone expect to have transport put on for this? Or would you expect to get there yourself?

No as a guest I wouldn't expect any transport, I'd make the journey myself

We are providing free transport from the hotel to the venue and return - so that they have the cars for the next day.

Has your church got any parking restrictions? I would probably consider providing transport if there are. I can't see many people drinking at the church so its not an issue.

Theres no parking restriction but there is no car park either. Just on street parking. Maybe I will look at it if I have any money left a couple of months before and if there is anything available.

Our church and reception venue are about 40mins drive apart, and at the moment we aren't planning to provide transport. The guests I've talked to so far are staying near, or at, the reception venue, and as there is a wedding at the venue the day before so guests can't book rooms for the night before, most will need to be traveling to the reception venue by car anyway.

We're transporting the whole bridal party (ushers, best men as well as BM's and apparently this is unusual) because none of them drive :/

and we're trying to help out some of our non-driving guests organising lifts.

    but no transport for all.

Ours was about 15 min drive too. We did put on a bus but there was a champagne reception at the venue before heading back for the meal so people would be wanting to drink. It was very reasonable for bus hire but obviously that depends on area to area and company to company.

I thought about providing transport but I think it's too much hassle for the return journey. If everyone leaves their cars at the church (or nearby), then they would all have to get the provided transport back at the same time - but some might want to stay in the hotel overnight, leave at the end of the party, leave earlier etc etc. they could get taxis back to the church but then that's an added expense when they could have just driven themselves. That's the way I see it anyway, so we won't be bothering. I've never been provided transport as a guest either and wouldn't expect it. Hope that helps!

We've had this issue as OH family wanted us to provide transport so they could drink!! I think if you can afford it it is a nice touch but I would never expect to go to a wedding and for the bride and groom to provide transport. Is there a car park at the venue if they are staying over night?
