Guestbook flashes? Or ideas? - ** UPDATED WITH FLASHES **

MummyMoo82, 7 August, 2012 at 17:44 Posted on Planning 0 19

I don't think I want to have a ru-of-the-mill guestbook for our wedding. What have other people done, or doing, or ideas?

Since my wedding was abroad, carrying around a guest book was a silly idea, so we had a "wisdom tree" where people wrote their messages on tags and hung them on a nice tree. I wanted these to go with peoples pictures when I make my scrapbook so it's a lot easier to pair their comments to their pictures Smiley smile

Some people have puzzles (each guest gets a puzzle piece as well I have seen

    I love finger print trees

I'm going to get one of my Arty friends to draw one for me, I might do a hot air balloon type picture instead though

    These are unique https://www.facebook.com/inspiremepuzzles?ref=ts

If you had an engagement shoot you could get some photos printed in photobook with large gaps for people to write a message on each page

Mine is slightly specific to where we're getting married but could be adapted. We're getting married at the Yorkshire Sculpture Park and we've bought a huge coffee table style book with photos of the art there from the last 30 years. Handily, it has big white gaps and even whole blank pages so going to ask to guests to write on those. That way, we'll have the guests' lovely comments plus a beautiful book to look at.

The puzzles are a great idea, but they are quite expensive, and we have a lot of people who probably can't read/write very small!

I like the idea of printing a photobook and letting people write in it. That sounds really good. Although it does mean more stuff that I need to organise/make! We are both such techy people, I was thinking of getting one of those blank ipad and iphone notebooks and let people write messages on the sheets inside, and then stick them in something? One day we will be old and laugh over how Ipads were seen as modern technology.

We had a traditional guest book but also everyone's favour/name place was a vintage teacup. We wrote their names on pink luggage tags attached to the cup as a place name but then we also asked people to write us tips for married life and tot hen attach to our wire table plan. We got some good, bad and funny advice but it also got people talking at the tables.

There are so many lovely ideas out there.

Some of the ones I like or have come across are:

    * Photo canvas: If you have an engagement shoot, or just have a nice photo of you both have it made into a canvas and people sign it. Like the photobook idea

    * Calendar: Get a customised calendar (or even a normal one) and have guests find their birthday and write their message in the box

    * Card "filing": Everyone writes their note and files it under whatever category fits best, for example, advice, best wishes etc

    * Wishin Jar: Same idea as wishing tree, but not as "visual" people write wishes/messages and put them in a jar

    * Fingerprint tree:

Also, something we offer is guest book (on the night) prints.

Couples usually have a "normal" guest book and a photobooth or picture area. We man the booth for an hour, take everyones photo and print it instantly onto sticky backed photo paper the size of a credit card.

Guests then stick their funny photobooh photo (or regular picture) into the book and if they want, also leave a message.

I like that idea, but then again Im completely bias Smiley winking

    Hiya

    Thanks for the mention Lisa

I can work to most budgets starting from £30.00 and the pieces are certainly big enough to write a decent size message.

This is mine. I'm putting a message in the frame to ask people to leave us messages and post them in the empty side, this cost about £22 all in...

I will have fingerprint tree, my brother is an artist, I will ask him draw a big tree, and all my guests will leave their finger print with different colors of pigment, just like the whole tree are full of fruit, so intereting!

I got it from different places. The hearts are just from ebay, the frame was £3.99 from Dunelm Mill, and the box was from a little shop on the coast near me. I'm going to put all the hearts in a big frame after the wedding, can't wait to read them all! x

I'm going to get my BM's to hand out old postcards and pens to people after the main course so that they can ask them to tell a joke, write us a message, draw us a picture etc and post it in the post box.

A good one I have seen is a Polaroid camera was passed around with people taking snaps of themselves and then writing a comment on the bottom white section, they were then hung up on a line of string with mini pegs for everyone to see and enjoy the snaps

We got postcards and then our TOG offered to stay until the end so we opted for chalkboards.
