Guestbook - what are you doing?

LEMBS8, 22 February, 2012 at 18:23 Posted on Planning 0 21

Hi All,

We'd like to have some sort of guestbook but I'm not excited about the idea of a traditional guestbook. I'm afraid it will just gather dust on a shelf or in a box somewhere. I suggested a picture with a wide matte for guests to sign but H2B is not keen on that. We've already considered a wishing tree and decided against it. What are you all doing? Any suggestions for a more meaningful way to capture guests' wedding wishes?

Our idea isn't original or very exciting, but does it for us. We are having an engagement shoot, and then using the images to make a photo book where guests can sign the pages with faded pics or empty pages next to pics, then we'll get to see their well wishes and our photos at the same time.

We are having a photobooth. Our gust go in with wacky props and gave their pic taken. The machine prints 2 copies off, one for the guests and one for our book. The attendant then sticks our photo into a guest book and the guest signs it. I figure that although it might live on a shelf we will look at the photos in the book a lot more than the words. Also having the attendant there means that someone is dealing with the book for us and hopefully encourages the guests to take part.

We're having both a guest book and a signing frame. We're asking people to write their messages in the book and then sign their name on the frame. The book will probably just go on a book case but the signing frame will be going up on our wall which will be really lovely.

We are having postcards from our favourite locations and hiring a postbox. It is because we met at our post office so we liked the idea of bringing in the classic red postbox even though it in no way matches our colours! Plus like you we felt that a traditional guest book would gather dust, we are going to make a big collage of our postcards and display it rather than have something sitting on a shelf.

Im getting my crafting head on and because i dont know oh's extended family (they live in scotland) im making a guest book with pictures of the people invited in, they have to find their picture and right a note! that way i can see them and picture them. i have a photographic memory and rubbish with names! so i didnt want to just look through the guest book thinking who are they?!

We are having notecards at every place setting and on a designated table with pens for our guests to write a message or wedding anecdote and we are having a well for them to post them into. We will make up an album with all of the signed cards afterwards.

Exactly what we are doing. Although, I was at a wedding at the weekend and was so busy eating, dancing and drinking that I didn't even use the photobooth in the foyer...I TOTALLY forgot that it was there! Ah well - I'm sure some people used it!

At the moment we plan to have a signing frame which we will have an engagement photo in, later to be replaced with a wedding photo and put on the wall.

Our Tog also offers us a free guest book with our photos in. I really want to set up a photo booth and get guests to stick their photos and comments in, but we can't afford a photo booth, so might have to think again about that. I wanted to do a DIY one but were a bit worried about a) people being able to work the camera and B) Printing their own pics c) keeping the camera safe all night!

Might have to have a slight rethink!

That's a really cute idea too! We were thinking of having a post box for cards but we could also use it the way you have suggested. We have been using a 'special places' theme for the table cards because we met in Boston where I lived but my OH was living in Dublin and we did a lot of travelling to see each other. Postcards from our special places would be a nice idea.

Btw - I love that you met at the post office! So cute!

I did the photo frame thing at my first wedding and I absolutely loved it. We put it up at home and every now and then I'd read one of the messages as I passed by and it always made me smile.

I'm not sure what to do this time though. We'll probably do the frame again as I can't think of anything I prefer but I'm still looking.

We would love a photobooth but are getting married on an island in the North of Scotland it's just not feasible sooooo we are buying a fuji instamax and doing a DIY version but ask folks to stick their picture into a pre prepared guest book and they can write a note next to their picture. I can't wait for the tipsy shenanigans pictures!

Hiya! we had a normal guest book. then for something a bit different our videographer set up a 'diary room' where out guests went in as groups or individually and left us messages. its hillarious to watch as the night got on and people got more drunk the messages got funnier! although its not on display we can watch it and to us watching it is more than just a photo to look at aswell as being something no one else i know has x

We're toying with the idea of having an instant film camera (polaroid or fujifilm) with lots of reloading film on hand so guests can take pictures, then stick it in an album we'll have laid out on a table, and write a message by it for us.

I think it's a great way for people to get into the guestbook, and it'll be an awesome keepsake because it will be full of happy pictures instead of just messages.

It does make us sound like we are possibly OAPs though! We originally met there, and I had mentioned my bf at the time, then ages later I saw OH on match.com and sent him a wink so he was brave enough to ask me out!

I wanted to do this but the instant cameras are sooooo expensive even on ebay and then if they arent the film is Smiley sad Might be the only way for us though...I suppose it is still cheaper, plus as a photographer myself I worry about the rather rubbish fixed focus range of the photos and worry i will wish the photos were better....but that might be the spoilt perfectionist in me

We'll probably be doing postcards on the tables to write a note. Most likely to get them on vistaprint.

We not going to bother with a guest book as nobody can ever think of anything original to write in them at the spare of the moment (myself included) particularly after everyone's been on the drink so will end up with just lots of 'best wishes' followed by a signature.

We are not having a gift list but advised people can donate to our honeymoon fund so I imagine those who will contribute will also give us a card too so they will have had time to think of a more heart felt message or something with more humour so we can keep these as a keepsake.
