Guestbooks

BearFeb2016, 27 September, 2015 at 09:30 Posted on Planning 0 11

Hi all.

What's the opinion on guest books? I feel like we should have something but from previous weddings we've been to I get a feeling they get a bit forgotten about and what do you actually end up doing with them?

we wanted to do something a little different if we did one, but my friends did the thumbprints/tree version, the poloroid photo version when we've costed up seems to get really expensive! Any other brides got suggestions of what they're planning to do?

We feel the same as you so to have some sort of guest book we are doing Jenga pieces. I think we will put one in everybody's place and some sharpies and ask guests to sign these. We do play Jenga sometimes and it's a cheaper way of doing it I think.

We are having a photo booth where a copy of the photo goes in the guestbook and they leave a message and they get a copy. The staff get people to write in it as they come out. This always seems to work at weddings x

I was going to have a fingerprint tree but there was a post on here where someone had spoilt it and it didn't look nice. I don't think I would put mine up anywhere if it wasn't tidy (bit ocd with certain things)

Due to getting married next year we have been going through my sisters wedding things and found her guest book where lots of people had written in it and then I remembered that she had given me the task of getting people to write it in. All I did was take it table to table and keep an eye on where it was and I got to speak with lots of people which was great.

Is this a task u could give a bridesmaid perhaps ?

I won a mulberry book in a hitched raffle when I got married the first time and used that as our guestbook. I then glued various cards and mementos from the day into the blank pages afterwards.

We had people sign a photo frame and now have it up with a wedding photo in. Frame was £15 and the insert was £10.

We made little individual tags for people to write messages on. some were blank but some had an opening line e.g. If in doubt..., after an argument you should...., always remember...

We did get some stupid ones but also got some lovely and funny ones. A friend is going to photograph the good ones so that we can include them in our photobooks.

We can just ignore the scruffy, or stupid ones.

We displayed them on a tree next to a box for our cards.

Apolgies for the huge picture - I don't know how to make it smaller.

I had a photo signing frame too. Seemed to work quite well but I also had a BM encourage people to sign it nicely. We have hung it in our kitchen and its a nice little reminder each time I walk in x

We're doing coloured envelopes clipped to string with tiny pegs and a bundle of white cards which can then be put into the envelope. It sounds a bit strange but I think it'll look quite cool and help with the decoration of the space. After the wedding, I'll post the envelopes into a book with the cards inside. It reminded me a bit of the 'Jolly Postman' which I adored as a child!

It's a bit of a variation of an idea from this website - http://www.bespoke-bride.com/2012/04/17/21-alternative-unique-guest-book-ideas/

I love the frame idea too. I will probably be buying this from Etsy. Or maybe one with one surname in the middle. They have a few variations. OH and I don't live together yet so it will be the perfect addition to our new home once we're married Smiley smile

We bought a large frame with a wide mount from the range for less than £10 which matches our lounge. We will put a photo from the day in it so I bought a little frame for £3 and wrote a message asking people to sign it so we can frame a photo from the day and be reminded of them. We also bought personalised trivia cards from EBAY. The best one was my Granny who and answered the question "secret to a long marriage is never... With 'serve puds without custard' !!!
