guillotines

delphi13, 17 May, 2012 at 10:35 Posted on Planning 0 14

Does anyone have any suggestions about where to get a reasonably priced guillotine or where I can hire one. I've got the daunting task of cutting out all the invites over the next few nights and I think I'll mess it up with scissors!

I found quite a few paper cutters in staples, range from £10 to stupid money. However I found that the cheap ones werent that great and tended to tear at the paper, although they were fine for card. I ended up getting a cutting matt and a scaple/craft knife and steel ruler, much easier and more accurate. Cost me £10 in staples for the 3 things. xx

Try the French. They probably have a few redundant ones knocking about.

    Failing that Hobbycraft.

Sorry, I'm no help at all. I'm just laughing! I'd agree with Hobbycraft, although MrsJay had a good idea too

I'm normally in the 'you get what you pay for when it comes to quality' camp but we bought one from Poundland (it was a pound…) and it did us fine. We had loads of stuff to cut up, some of it was extremely fiddly but it worked really well.

The graphic designer friend who did our invites said to avoid guillotines as they give a slighty curved edge and you are far better off with a scalpel, metal ruler and rubber mat. That's how we did all ours!

WHS do a very English "Rotary Cutter" rather than the French equivalent - my parents have one and I used it for all my invite cutting. It was on offer at half price too so dead cheap.

Hello, I got mine frm Amazon, reduced from £70 to £26! Make sure you get one with a clamp to hold the paper in place otherwise it has a tendency to move.
