got me thinking about honeymoon budgets. What would you class as a big budget honeymoon? In terms of your own honeymoon, would you spend the same amount of money on a holiday or have you increased your normal holiday budget because it's your honeymoon?

We spent the same as we always do, we couldn't afford to do anything else after saving for the wedding. But we're thinking about saving for a bigger holiday next year.

Like some others, our holidays tend to really vary in price, and also my OH likes to spend some of his annual leave just chilling at home, and on the bank of some sort of water fishing, whereas I like to use all of mine on time abroad (not a big fan of UK holidays), so I do tend to go away a lot more than he does. We usually go away together (a week with his children and a week without if we can afford it, otherwise it is just a week with the kids) and then I go away with my friends and/or family.

I guess we would normally spend about £1500 on a week for just the 2 of us as we tend to go AI, and about £2000 if we take the children, and I usually spend anything from £300 to £1500 on my holiday with my friends/family depending on duration and location.

We are spending £4000 on our honeymoon, so not that much more than we would normally spend, and I would think that anything over £5000 is a big budget holiday.

Spending money and new clothes (which are a must have for me when going away ?) are usually on top of this.

Our honeymoon is costing in the region of £4k but we are only paying this because of a very generous gift from my mum and dad. Our origninal plan was to spend around £1.5k on a honeymoon.

Our holidays normally revolve around our children so have been to eurodisney and butlins!

Hmmmm, I love travelling and I have to say I love love love turning up somewhere and finding my own way or driving across the whole country over a month or so, so to be honest in the past although holidays have cost a fair few thousand they have usually been for a month or so, so not really 'big budget' in terms of cost per day.

For me the honeymoon is about going somewhere incredible and exciting - I can't think of anything worse than laying on the beach in Turkey for a week (although if that's your bag then go for it!), so I am happy to pay for the experience and will definitely be paying more than my usual holiday.

I would say, anything over 15k for both is a biiiiig budget honeymoon. Saying that though, I haven't looked at honeymoons at all as far too early for us to book so I may end up changing this figure when it comes to booking

Our mini-moon was only our second holiday since we have been together (im not counting the 2 days camping in the new forest!) we sepnt £600 for a 5* all inc for 4 nights which I consider quite cheap for what it was.

We are aiming for Vietnam and Thailand on the full on honeymoon but thats looking at more like £4k so we are currently thinking we may have to go closer to home last minuite stylee whihc will be a shame.

And I always buy holiday clothes!! For example the maxi dresses I bought for Morrocco would not normally grace my wardrobe but were a nessecity over there. The sort of clothes I wear on holiday its normally not warm enough to wear over here- I seldom remember needing a sarong in the UK!

So true! Shorts and strappy tops hibernate between hot holidays, ski stuff sits in the cupboard all summer and walking stuff tends to wear out...

I find that holiday packing is an opportunity to check that the seasonal stuff still fits, dispose of things that don't (or have permanent marks) and replace as necessary. I tend not to "inventory" clothes when not packing for a holiday of a given duration, so things I don't wear much tend not to get inspected. Planning packing means considering what might be required, checking that I own those things and that where necessary they are still presentable!

As for the honeymoon budget, depending on savings/ gifts it will be low budget, probably involving a tent... Probably max £1,500 and would definitely be less than the all budget for a ski holiday. Largely because I don't really do sitting on a beach (and certainly not in July - I would sizzle). Current possibilities revolve around driving to Alps in "toy" car and visiting some nice passes among other things, Isle of Man/Wales in "toy" car and visiting interesting roads (possibly with tent for some nights) and the outside possibility of Iceland or Scandinavia.

We go to Australia every year which cost 4k+ with flights, apartments, car rental etc.. so I wouldn't expect to spend more than that on a honeymoon, in fact I would spend less. We would just make sure we go somewhere we couldn't go with my son so we really appreciate the peace, luxury and romance as child free time out is a rarity.

    This!

Our honeymoon will be our second 'proper' holiday together in our 5 years as a couple and also only the second time we've been out of the UK together. I do love camping and seeing the UK, but I've started to get an urge to see the world and I think the honeymoon will be the start of doing that!

PS I'll be having a whole new wardrobe of clothes to take on honeymoon a) because I haven't been somewhere hot since I was 15 and sadly I don't fit into the clothes I wore then and more relevantly don't own them anymore and b) new clothes make me feel good, and I want to feel good on my honeymoon. Might seem shallow to some of you, but it's my money, I work damn hard for it, and I'll spend it on whatever I like so nyah!

Our honeymoon was slightly more expensive than the holiday we've booked for next year, but we're going with the kids and have upgraded to get a private pool. It's their first foreign holiday so we've pushed the boat out.

I took the kiddies on Holiday last Christmas (Disney) and it cost £10K. Which I thought was a mahoosive budget! I promised it would be a once in a life time thing and worked bloody hard to save the money. So come the wedding, people very generously gave us some money and we thought hey lets book another holiday and guess what, it turns out it's not a once in a life time thing. So another 10K holiday/honeymoon coming up next year. ☹️

We rarely spend very much on holidays - we tend to go to my parents place in rural Spain every year so average spend is probably about £800.

We are massively increasing our budget for honeymoon. We're off to Australia and Bali for three weeks with a budget of £6000.

We tend to spend around £400-£500 on our uk holidays, and have just had a week in rome for about £900 all in (but this is unusual, the first time we've been abroad together). We'll be looking to spend around £1000-£1500 on a honeymoon abroad, and about £600-£1000 on a honeymoon in the uk. Thats a much bigger budget than normal for us.

We are planning on heading out too South Africa for our honeymoon, visiting safari's and the beaches. We've managed to triple what we would usually spend on a holiday! But why not, it's a holiday you will never forget!

    Hi all,

my 1st wedding honeymoon - was to Turkey for a fortnight and was the price of a normal holiday we would have normally spent at that time.

This time - better position in life and to us the honeymoon was more important and cost just under £8K 2 weeks 5* all incl Maldives and was pure luxury, bliss, paradise and worth every single penny! we budgetted for it and can afford it (better position in our lives)

our annual holidays now are around the £3k mark for the 2 of us but with daughter we are spending about £4.5k annually. I also go to see my mum and dad in spain during the summer which costs around £1k.

But we are fortunate and able to afford these now!

Well, me and H have only had one other holiday excluding the honeymoon - and our honeymoon was about 10x more expensive than that holiday.

Going forward, I would hope our "normal" holidays cost about half of what our honeymoon did. We really pushed the boat out, and we were as close to "stuffy" as we are willing to get right now. So i'd say our honeymoon will remain a real treat, and a one off holiday of a lifetime.
