Had my first dress session yesterday...

Mrs_T2B, 25 April, 2010 at 13:55 Posted on Planning 0 48

My mum and I had my first dress appointment yesterday.

I went in with an openmind about what I thought I'd like for our wedding, and took some printouts of ones I had fallen in love with.

I was quitye adamant that I didn't want anything 'big' or 'flouncy'. I tried 5 completely different styles on, and fell head over heels for two!!! Both of which were very different. One is a very moden fishtail design and the other is a Fairytale, which I said I wouldn't like but I love it! They were both by Ronal Joyce, and very reasonably priced.

Just thought I would share my excitement with you all....It's all finally settled in now that I'm getting married ?.

One is in the Victoria Jane 2010 Collection and is called 'Savannah' and the other is on the Ronald Joyce 08/09 Collection and is called 'Connie' ? Can't flash unfortunately and the shop wouldn't let me take a picture for copyright purposes which is understandable.

    Hi

I remember when I went to mine I was the same I had pretty much decided what I wanted - nothing to big not alot of detail something quite simple but elegant - I ended up with a semi sparkley number which isnt huge but bigger than what I wanted!! lol

If youve got 2 to choose from even better ? - how r u going to decide?

    xx

The more unusual 'Savannah' one would go with my hair as it is at the moment which is like a modern bob, and then the other one would look better with longer hair so I would need to grow it starting at xmas I reckon to have nice princessy type curls.

They both have there good and bad points. One no-one would expect to wear anything like that, one would be easier when going to the toilet, one I could move more in, and one would be better to have quirky pics (like eg. OH giving me a piggy back) whereas the other woiuld make that practically impossible!

The Bridal Boutique gets their new stock in July so I might even change my mind completely by then LOL!

    xx

I have also fallen in love with a Ronald Joyce dress! - 'Livia' from the new 2011 collection. If I order it before Wednesday the shop will give me £150 off the price so I don't know what to do!! I do feel like its 'the one' but with so long to go to the wedding don't want to rush.

I agree that the Ronald Joyce dresses are amazing quality for the price. Are you going to do more shopping or pick one of the two you've already found?

I've decided that I am going to get one from the boutique I went to on Saturday as it's a local and perfect for what I would like. We are trying to use local amenities, might sound a bit daft but I'd prefer my money to go to local folk.

I'm going to go back in July and look at her new stuff that she gets in, but I'm in love with the Savnnah dress particularly because it's different, and wouldn't be what people would expect me to wear. However, I am slightly torn between that and the other.

Plus, I'm a Libra and my worst trait is changing my mind so I could hate them in a week lol!

Haha Vicky - I thought I had posted your msg then! I have fallen in love with the Livia dress as well and am going to look at it again on Saturday. The lady in the shop said she would possibly be able to give me 10% off if I booked soon but I'm a bit worried as I still have about 16 months until I get married!

If you don't mind me asking, how much is the dress in your shop? It's currently 1,150 where I am looking which includes a floor length veil.

The Savvanah is about £650 and the Connie one is £850, that is obviously without any alterations, veil etc ?

I don't blame you it is soooo gorgeous - my fave thing about it is the internal corset - I find it sucks you in more than the lace up backs! I have heard people pay all sorts of different prices for Ronald Joyce dresses and I think it depends which part of the country you are in aswell. I'm in Kent and the shop I originally tried it on in sells is for £1,075. But then I phoned every Ronald Joyce stockist within 20 miles of me and was quoted all different prices ranging from £995-£1200 (also including the floor length veil). So if I decide to buy it I will be going for the shop that sells it for £995!!

However, like you I am torn as I have 14 months til the wedding so don't want to rush into anything,

Thats interesting to know! I will have a search for shops that stock Ronald Joyce in my area (I live in Suffolk)

They did say in the shop that they would match any lower price that I find so would be interesting if I can find it any cheaper.

It is an absoloutly gorgeous dress! Smiley smile

Would you mind telling me the name of the shop which sells it for 995?

My shop will then price match it! She did say it could be anywhere in the country. Would be good to save a couple of hundred.

    Thank you

Hi there, Just found this thread! I have ordered Ronald Joyce Livia for my wedding on 25th Sept and I got it for £950 including the veil. And yes from a proper bridal shop! I went to a local one out of town (rents are cheaper) and I asked her for the best possible price bearing in mind I'd be ordering a bridesmaids dress and 2 flowergirl dresses and my tiara from her. The starting price was £1,100

Hey BP, thanks for resurrecting my thread lol! Glad you found the right dress. I think the Ronald Joyces dresses are beautiful and fantastic quality for how much you pay. I was quite shocked at how much cheaper her designs were from others.

Oh yes it is. I loved being a princess for the hour we were there. The ladies were so lovely in the shop and helped me in and out of the dresses. I'm going back in July to look at her new stock.

It was quite funny because one of the dresses had never been tried on before and she was thinking of sending it back to the suppliers ?

    Hello Ladies,

I too have ordered a Ronald Joyce Livia dress and it is gorgeous! My wedding is in August this year. I do however have a question that no one can answer, or rather the lady in the shop said things that contradict! I feel a bit shy now ringing up and asking her! Are you guys wearing a bra as it has a corset? ? The lady in the shop said that a wonderbra would be good, but then in another conversation said you didn't need one....!

    Thanks! x

I also ordered the 'Lovely Livia' today!! So I guess we are dress twins. Good bartering on the price. I ended up paying £1,075 including the veil and couldn't get it any lower but managed to get a discount on the bridesmaid dresses as I ordered them all at the same time, in the same shop.

Another dress twin!! Re: the bra situation. Both times I tried the dress on, I was wearing a strapless bra. I don't think I would feel comfortable in it without a bra because although there is a corset the actual "boobage" area doesn't have much structured support!!! I think either way would be fine depending on what you found most comfortable. Perhaps when you have your proper fitting take a bra and try it 'both ways' ? HTH

Thanks for the advice, I think I shall do just that! Didn't get as good deal on the dress but oh well, I LOVE it! Is anyone wearing the shoulder strap? My shop said they will put it on hidden poppers so I can wear it for the ceremony and remove it for later for a different look. Still undecided...!!!! I am however now worrying as I have managed to lose a bit of weight quicker than I expected. I hope they can take it in...!!!!

I just saw this post and decided to join up today as i'm so excited!!!! I went for my first dress fitting yesterday at a local shop which I knew sold Ronald Joyce and Benjamin Roberts ... I went with an open mind but also knowing that I wanted detail, no ruffles and not something big as i'm only 5ft 1. I went in and the lady picked out some and so did I...the second one I tried on I absolutely fell in love with ... Benjamin Roberts 2051 ... I loved it that much that I decided to buy it there and then and I think my H2B almost had a heart attack when I told him i'd picked one and paid for it in full to get a 10% discount!! A little over what I expected to pay at 1200 but with the discount it came to 1080 but who can put a price on your only wedding dress ? Am so excited now I think I could burst....lets hope it doesn't need altering as i'm all out of pocket lol xx

    Hi Abby

I tried on the Livia dress and it's definitly supposed to come with a veil. It was my number one choice until I found THE dress. I phoned around quite a few shops and I think the lowest I found it for was 1k, so that knocks a bit off.

    Hope that helps
