Hair accessory help again please! *mega flashes*

pandorasbox, 15 August, 2011 at 13:03 Posted on Planning 0 16

I think I have sort of decided on a hair style, my stylist friend has shown me her book and they are all amazing but I have no pics to keep. It is likely going to be a curly style, half up half down, with some curly loops pinned up with a side parting at the front (no fringe) gently pulled back from my face. Maybe a bit similar to some of these but not exactly:

Lynsey's clip, clear crystal and pearl, sparkles beautifully

She has suggested I have a hairband to decorate the front, and have the gorgeous clip Lynsey made me towards the side and back of the loops.

So now I am looking for suggestions of hairbands that would compliment my dress, a few people have commented it has a 30s/40s feel to it so although my wedding isn't themed as vintage, I could bring that out with my hair accessory. I have been down the side tiara route and the only option I really loved was just too heavy looking for the dress, so now going to have a try with ribbon style headbands.

The detail on the centre of the dress is a mix of crystal beads and tiny pearls, in a sort of starburst design. There are some flower and leaf patterns if you look closely, and I don't really want more floral images. The dress is a shiny ivory shade.

Dress:

Here are some I have seen on ebay and etsy. Which ones are the nicest do you all think? TIA! There are tons on etsy and a few on ebay and haven't really found any other websites that do them. Not sure which style would go best.

The first is a link as won't let me save the images. http://www.onecherishedmoment.co.uk/onlineshop/prod_1291317-Double-Satin-ribbon-vintage-style-headband.html

So should I keep it simple with just one or 2 strands like the last few images, or go for something bigger with a pattern like the first pics?

Has anyone worn one, did it stay up securely? Anybody seen any other hairbands or websites with them on? Thanks all.

I tried one of the headbands....a 2 strand one, and my hair is so fine i just didnt feel like it would stay put, but im sure a really good hairdresser can solve problems like that!

might be worth buying a cheap version (off ebay say) and go to a hairdresser get it put in and walk around all day with it on just to see how secure they can get it before splashing out loads of money on one!

Thanks, that's what I was wondering as my hair is fine, but my friend said it shouldn't be a problem to secure it. Plus she will be there all day with me so on hand to sort out any malfunctions.

I do plan on getting a cheapo one first to try, I just would like to hear opinions on the sort of style people think would work with the dress as I am so indecisive! Or if people say no it looks totally wrong, then I can start finding other ideas!

I think I prefer the single or double strand ones - the ones which have shaped parts (explaining myself well!) are more grecian in my view and I don't think suit your dress.

I know you are leaning away from side tiaras but with what you say about your hair style and wearing the clip at the back I'd go for a tiara band - then you get the detail you need but can be assured that it will stay in place all day if the ribbons don't. Something like this http://www.louloubelle.co.uk/tiaras_bands_bands.html

Thanks everyone. Debbie, I think I actually flashed your design twice, or if not there is another very similar on my pics to the dressing gown one! Thanks for the feedback, good to know they are safe and secure.

I have no rush so will keep on browsing and maybe the perfect one will come along nearer the time. I just like to be super-organised and see what everyone thought of the idea with my dress...glad nobody is saying it is a daft idea so far!

I make these type of headbands too - feel free to have a look https://www.taximystuff.co.uk/headbands.htm through them. I would suggest something simple - like the design I did for one of my brides where it had pearls and rhinestones - but wear it like a headband https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.10150141511684409.329590.52939309408

Feel free to emai if you want to discuss x

I'm not a fan of the diamante ones with your dress. Your detailing is quite classic with the pearls so I'd stick to more pearls and beading rather than sparkly stones. Nice idea though with the ribbon headband. Given me some food for thought ?

You might want to get an out-of-the-box hairstyle. Try to sport your outfit with flower headbands. There’s a lot of these stuff online. Check them out so you can find something that will match your outfit.

Wow I did some mega flashy. What the flip is an out-of-the-box hairstyle?

Katie if it was good advice please un-delete as I still haven't made any decisions about the ribbon/tiara thing!

Ha! I'm about to take on your mega flashing....? Sorry I'd deleted as I know it's frowned upon to post old posts, and I didn't want to look silly. Anyway.....

This is a design I did recently for a bride. She wanted a ribbon tied around her head & hanging underneath, but wanted the support of an alice band, so I've used traditional millinery techniques to add a secret support.

This here was actually designed to be a forehead band, with the detail sitting to one side of your forehead, but could be worn in an alice band style.

This is a side tiara that I've done and I always looks very delicate.

And here are some alice bands........

This is what a Hitcher had, as she wanted something on an alice band too and we had several designs going back adn forth until we got to this.

And I know it's a starfish.....(beaach bride) but this bride was looking at alice bands and decided on this comb in the end. Any design like this can be amended to suit your final idea.

I hope this helps and I've not confused you more. Feel free to drop me a line if you'd like to. ****@****************.***
