Hair and beauty help

TheNinjaPigeon, 7 August, 2010 at 17:32 Posted on Planning 0 8

Hi girls.

I'm in need of assistance with hair and beauty. I'm not hugely into the whole beauty regime and make-up and 'up-do' thing but want to look fab for my wedding (obviously). I have been confident and decisive in everything else that I have been organising but am fretting about this stuff. Make up should be ok because my mate who's not a BM is good with it and has offered to be my make-up artist on the morning. She also lives near to me in Newcastle so can come for my practice run and to buy it, then will be in Leeds with me on the morning of the wedding.

But Hair I don't know where to start. My hairdresser in Newcastle who I trust implicitly just can't come to Leeds on a saturday, and even if she could I doubt I could afford it, and I'm worried about getting a stranger to do my hair. Would you recommend getting someone to come to the house or should I go to a salon. Either way, does anyone have any recommendations or are there any HIBS's doing hair in the Leeds area?

Also - I want to get my legs etc waxed, but I never have done before and stupidly have no idea how far in advance of the wedding I should get it done or how long the 'unhairiness' lasts!

Can any of you lovely ladies offer some guidance to a confused hitcher? x

    Hiya Becci

Im afraid that I am going to be of little use to you but will be interested in the answers you get as I haven't a clue either. Im not a girly girl and have been considerably proud of me that I am going to where a dress. Let alone thinking about hair and make up he he. I hope that you got lots and lots of help so I don't have to ask nearer the time. I really hope you have a fantastic day

About waxing, I don't know if I'd recommend it if you've never done it before. Though it will keep your legs smooth for at least a week, some women's skin is just too sensitive for it so I think you should do a test run in advance.

Good tip NolaD. I'll book in to do a practice run way in advance!

Yes DEFINITELY have a practice!!!! I have had a very red and bumpy head since Wednesday because I had my eyebrows waxed for the first time! Soooooo glad I tried it weeks before the wedding or I would have been changing my veil for a birdcage one to hide my bumps!!

Hello! I'm quite similar to you in that I don't generally bother all that much on a day-to-day basis - especially with make-up!

With hair, I would recommend getting someone to come to you if you can, although if you can find a nearby salon that you can go to, you would probably find it cheaper to go to them. I am going to my salon nearby on the day because it's much cheaper than getting them to come out to me, and I think they will do a good job.

You must go for at least 1 trial first though, whatever you do, as then you will have the chance to see lots of different styles & see if they suit you.

Waxing depends on your hair regrowth, but I would do it a few days in advance of the wedding to let your legs recover! As an alternative, I bought an epilator recently and it has changed my life - no more annoying shaving regrowth or prickles, and while it's painful the first time, it is so easy after that and really relatively painless. So maybe consider doing that instead as then you can get used to it over a period of time?

Annah - does it really stop hurting after the first time of doing it - the epilator I mean - they scare me lol I think I prefer waxing - although I cant do it myself lol. Smiley smile xx

Just the word epilator makes me shudder. Perhaps because being responsible for ripping out my own hair is scary - the thought of a random lady doing it means I can blame her for the pain!! Ha.
