hair and make up

Hi Ladies,

Me again! Well I've had my hair trial today four weeks before our wedding. As I mentioned before we are having a small intimate ceremony of twenty people so I wasn't sure if it was a bit extravagant having hair and make up done. Anyway, my usual hairdresser came and did my hair today and to be honest apart from a few sparkly pins she put in (I wanted my hair down) it was curled and pretty much in the same style as I could do myself. I asked how much the trial was and she said to pay her on the day which would be £100. She said this was a discounted rate as I wasn't having a lot done. Seems an awful lot of money for someone to do my hair in the same way I could do it the only exception is I don't get the hassle of doing it myself. My make up trial, done by someone different was £45 and then £40 for the day so all in all £185 for hair and make up. My make up if I bought a few new bits myself I could do myself. What does everything think? Seems a bit OTT for such a small ceremony and a sit down meal after. Any opinions anyone would care to share, thanks :-)

I don't think you should feel bad about getting your hair and make up done - regardless of how tiny your wedding is going to be, it's still your wedding! Don't feel bad about wanting to look your best! I think the real issue is whether you are being overcharged for what you want to have done. My hair and make is coming to roughly the same (I am also paying for my two bridesmaids to have their hair done) so altogether it is £270. Probably is a bit much but I'm not someone who gets their nails, etc done (I have my haircut twice a year!) so I don't mind forking out and I have very mad curly hair!

I wouldn't feel bad about the cost because you think the size of your wedding doesn't warrant it. Perhaps you could get quotes from other wedding hair and make up people and see what they can do for you. But if you don't mind paying the £100 for your own hairdresser then I would just go for it! Forget about whether it's "OTT" - you could say that about most of the things that encompass a wedding!
