Hair and Make Up

Shannon Gilbert , 3 March, 2016 at 12:20 Posted on Planning 0 6

Hi Everyone!

I thought I would start this conversation to get advice from brides and brides to be about hair and makeup. The price is on the steep side, but it doesn't help that I have 6 bridesmaids and I want to include my mum and get her hair and make up done also. Does anyone have any ideas about how to make it cost a little less? I don't really know anyone who does hair or beauty, and I don't want to have to choose people who will and wont get theirs done professionally.

Any advice?

Many Thanks

    Hi,

Do you want all the bridesmaids to have their hair and makeup done professionally? Could you ask them to pay for their own makeup? Have their hair done professionally but let them decide on whether they want their makeup doing or not.

The other option is just for you to have a trial. Especially with the makeup. If your happy with the makeup artist at the trial them she can just do your bridesmaids and Mum on the day without having to pay for them all to have a trial. I do this the majority of the time. So most makeup artists will be used to it. I would say the same goes with the hair.

Hope ive been of some help.

    Hi,

I have 5 bridesmaids and budgeted for the possibility of paying for them all to have hair done. However when i asked them some preferred to do their own. Those that are getting hair done are not having a trial but that is just because they live to far away but also saves money.

My bridesmaids seem happy to do their own make up. My hairdresser is helping with my make up but i am supplying the make up as i have sensitive skin and struggle to find foundation (she charged me a bit less for supplying the make up and that way i get to keep it). Any excuse really for a make up spending spree! Have you checked with your bridesmaids if they all want their make up done as you may find that some prefer to do their own.

Or could you give them the option of hair or make up and let them choose?

I couldn't fit much into my budget for this, so gave my only bridesmaid/MOH a choice between getting her hair or her make up done. She ended up going for her hair.

You could maybe skip the trial cost too? Or just try it on one of the bridesmaids?

Maybe I'm crazy, but I would do something like that and simply let my hair fall freely on my shoulders...

    The cheapest option for me))))

Yep I am doing the same, offered to pay for hair or makeup, their choice if they want to pay to get the other done too.

I'm paying for my bridesmaids and my mum to have their hair done. I asked them if they wanted their make up done professionally and told them the price and they all want their make up done so will be paying for this themselves. I have been bridesmaid twice and I have always done my own make up. The first time I was given the dress and flowers and that was it. The second time, I didn't have to pay for a thing and had my hair trial and on the day paid for me. I guess it depends on the bride and her budget X

My situation is a little different as the bridesmaids usually pay for their own hair and makeup here. I arranged my hair and makeup then told them they were free to do theirs themselves in any style they would like, or they could pay X to have it done by the stylists I hired. The price for hair was pretty standard but the makeup was more expensive so I asked what price they were comfortable with and offered to pay the difference for anyone who wants to get it done.

I think if you have a specific way you want them to wear their hair or a specific makeup look you're after, you should probably pay for it. If you're okay with them doing it themselves then you're really not obligated to pay if they decide they'd like it done professionally. Another option is to see if there is a local beauty college with students who will do it for a cheaper rate.
