Hair and make-up!!!

ExpensiveOrangeStationery478, 9 February, 2016 at 16:30 Posted on Planning 0 11

Ok im pulling my hair out abit with this one if anyone can i'd very much appreciate it.

I've got a few quotes for Hair and make-up for me and 6 bridesmaids

some quoted at £900 and some quoted at £500!

has anyone got any tips on how I figure out who's the best for the job and whos the best value for money?

also is it bad if I get someone expensive to do my hair and make-up but get someone cheaper to do my bridesmaids?

Any advice and tips would be amazing thanks in advance

Charlotte

Where abouts are you based? That might affect prices...

Don't know about makeup, but the girl doing my BMs charges £45 each so that's £135 for the adults. My 2 younger ones are having their hair done at their home for about £20 each. Mine will cost £30 with my usual hairdresser (she's mobile) as will my mum and nan, so we're looking at £300 for hair.

I'm still undecided on makeup. I'm waiting for some prices back... I'm tempted to just do my own!

I would see if you can see any online reviews, or use people your friends recommend.

I'm based in the West Midlands if that helps! Smiley smile

    Hi,

Have a look at their portfolios and see who's makeup/hair you like and who does a similar style to what you want. Also speak or email the MUA's and hairdressers and get a feel of who you like and how you get on with them. Look at their testimonials and see what people say and how many they have.

Prices people charge can be affected with how much experience they have, what products they use and how far they have to travel.

London prices will be more expensive than other parts of the country.

    Hope I've helped a little.

    Aimee x

I found that prices varied a lot. I live in Kent but am getting married in Surrey and found that the Surrey or London based hair and MUAs were more expensive. I found a local MUA though and she is happy to travel and even paying her petrol costs, she is a lot cheaper than some of the others I looked at. She has recommended a hairdresser to me who is also a good price. I just found her on google.

We're getting married in Essex. I found costs varied so much and some I was blown away by! I've got my mum and myself plus 5 BMs. For make up the MUA were going for is £300 (some quotes came in over £600!) and my hair dresser is doing myself and mum and 4 BM (one of the BM has short short hair) I must admit she is a friend and is coming mobile and is charging me £165 (compared to the £500 or so I got from some!) shop around Smiley smile

I have gone with a company that do both hair and makeup together, based on a recommendation from my photographer and the fact that I liked her style on the website pics.

Mine has quoted £150 for my hair and makeup, BM hair £55, BM makeup £55 or £95 if they want both. My mums hair will cost £55.

i have 4 BMs so was looking at about £670 total (including my trial, not bothering with them having trials). This was a bit too much for me to afford so I said to the girls that I would pay for either their hair or makeup, whichever they preferred and they could get the other done if they wanted to but didn't have to as I'm happy if they want to do it themselves. This brought it down to £455 which is still a lot of money really but it will be a nice experience being pampered together on the morning.

Ps. I don't really think it would work having one person for you and a cheaper for the BMs, but I'm sure you can find a way to get the cost down. Are you a weekday wedding? Some do discounts.

Being utterly clueless with hair and makeup, having it done for me was really important. I got quotes, exchanged a few emails and had a few telephone conversations and narrowed itdown to two. Then i actually went and met them both. What swung it for me was the answer to this question - what do you do if a bride wants something that really doesn;t suit them? The MUA I booked told me that she makes up their face half with what they want and half with what she thinks. She's never lost. That might not work for someone more confident but I liked it! I'm still 15 months from my wedding so I still don;t know how it;s all going to pan out but I don;t have any doubts that the MUA will make me the best I can be. Prices were £100 for bridesmaid hair an makeup; £200 for me and another £100 for a trial for me.

Hi, does the one for 500 pounds look any good? Could you send through their details? I am also looking for someone for a reasonable price and struggling to find one!

Hi Charlotte. I didn;t have any trials before booking, just met the two that I'd liked the best. If I'd had a bit of money to spare I might have done that, it's not a bad idea. I went with Natalie Willingham, but as she and I are based in Leeds I suspect that the mileage charge might be more than the actual makeup!!!! Smiley smile
