Hair and MU trial - any good?

Fairycake135, 11 June, 2015 at 10:06 Posted on Planning 0 4

I recently had my hair and make up trial, and although it seemed ok on the day, I had a few niggling doubts about certain things. I don't wear much make up, if any, on a day to day basis and I wonder if this has made me have unrealistic expectations. My mum has also decided she didn't like her hair and make up trial, she was expecting "more" from it, if you know what I mean. In hindsight, I guess i did too.

My question to you lovely hitchers is did anyone have their hair and make up trial, decide afterwards they weren't as happy as they should have been, and organised a trial with a different stylist? How many trials did you all have until you were happy and were they with different people? I'm trying to figure out what to do, maybe I should try a different stylist as ideally I would like the same person to do the bridal party and my mum doesn't want the original stylist to do her hair and make up.

My mum said this, but she put it down to expecting a 'wow!' moment, and forgot that it was still just me under the make up, in my regular clothes so it all just looked a bit strange. Not quite the same as the 'wow' moment you get from putting on a big white gown.

If you have time and can afford it, try someone else and see if you like it a little more, is what i'd say Smiley smile

I didn't like the make-up trial I recently had, I had found a salon that do a great package deal and took my mum with me.
The hair trial was fantastic and I really loved it, wasn't so keen on the make-up. Problem I had was that my mum loved it so I felt awkward saying I didn't.
I ended up staying quiet, but arranged another trial for this Saturday. I'm taking my MOH with me this time as she always speaks her mind, plus I have pictures of what I'd like rather than not having a clue!
I plan on telling her that while I liked the look she created last time, it didn't feel like me so I'd like to try something different.

Would definitely suggest having another trial if you can Smiley smile

I had my make up trial in March, loved the look, so did my fiancé, it lasted all night what more could I want....yup you guessed it!

I'd been having niggling doubts about my makeup and had seen another look online that I really liked. So I went to the Dior make up counter spoke to the manager there who I've seen a couple of times over the last year or two and explained. she sat me down, I showed her the pictures and 30 mins later I had the look, and I LOVED it. Its totally different to the first one, much more dramatic. So I emailed my MUA explained, sent her the pic taken and shes assured me its no problem and she can recreate this for me on the day.

I realised that the problem was that the make up trial was in March, and were getting married in summer so the colours I went for were more wintery and just wouldn't have looked right.

Hair on the other hand, I gave my hairdresser free reign as I wasn't sure what I wanted, but probably half up half down, I showed her a pic of the dress, she said she knew exactly what she wanted to do and she was absolutely right. I loved it the second I saw it. I think the advantage here is that I've been going to this salon for about 18 months so they know me fairly well. Its costing more to have 2 people, my MUA does hair too, but I love the look she created and I know I wouldn't be happy getting someone else to try and recreate it.

I went with my best friend/MOH yesterday for make up trial (not doing hair trial as mine is a pixie cut and not much to trial!).

I did the whole 'don't wear much normally, want to keep it natural' chat and she nodded and assured us she would do so...

Two hours later we left the salon looking like trannies who applied their slap with a trowel in the dark...

My dad saw us and his reaction said what we were thinking! I was so self conscious I removed it as soon as I got home!

Needless to say I have cancelled the 'professional' (using the term loosely!) makeup and we are doing our own.

All I can say is thank f**k we went for a trial before the big day! ?

Go with your gut....if you are not 100% then don't go with it, you should feel enhanced in confidence, not conscious of how you look xx

I wasn't 100% happy with either my hair or make up trial but, i was still confident they would pull it off on the day and they both did! :-)

i think you need to go with your gut instinct and if your not happy look elsewhere x
