Hair disaster

Rod, 20 August, 2011 at 21:24 Posted on Planning 0 37

So i bought a couple of boxes of 'warm chocolate brown' hair dye to even up my hair in time for the wedding - I have lots of natural highlights that go a dirty bronze colour that really doesnt do anything for me.

However, after dying my hair and drying it, i now have auburn hair. i.e. dark ginger. There is nothing wrong with red hair but A - its not what i wanted and B - its most definitely not chocolate brown.

I have 6 weeks til my wedding and im so upset with my hair colour. I could cry. I have taken my hairdresser friends advice and bought some plain brown hair dye to cover it up but i'm scared to do it now in case it goes horribly wrong. Tho to be honest i am not sure how much worse it could be!

ARGH!

Personally I'd get yourself to a salon and get them to sort it out for you. You don't want to risk it going wrong again so close to the wedding.

I've never experienced a dye going wrong but I think going into a salon and having your hair treated properly would be the best thing to do. I wouldn't go putting another dye on top. Can't salons strip your hair back and start again fairly easily?

    Don't panic, it's all fixable.

    WSS!!

Definatley, I know its costly but starting to sound like it will be worth the money, I'd maybe get it done the week before the wedding though?

I really cant afford it Kharv I dont have ANY money spare otherwise i would have, it will be AT LEAST £50 in one of the salons round here and i just dont have it.

My friend is my hairdresser and recommended a brown to cover it up, she said it would be fine so I will try that tomorrow. If that doesnt work I dont know what I will do.

Can you find a salon that has trainees? You would get a huge discount for letting a newbie on your hair. Or do you have a local college for hairdressing - you could present yourself there?

I think I will try this brown one that I bought today and then go from there. TBH the colour the salons use is the same as we buy in boxes and if all else fails my hairdresser friend said she will look at it for me. You never know I might put this other one on and love it.

What have i got to lose??!

    Apart from my hair......oh lord....

My sister is a hairdresser, and she says the quickest way to strip bad colour from hair is to wash your hair with a teatree based shampoo.

You have my sympathies tho - have done it many a time, i remember turning mine orange then purple once lol. altho many would say my hair now is a disaster but i LOVE it!!

Can't your hairdresser friend not just come and sort it out for you rather than waiting if the next one doesn't work?

I've heard Head and Shoulders is good for stripping colour out too.

The problem with stripping the colour out is that red will stay longer than any other colour. So the reddy brown colour will just be red. and red hair makes me look really washed out espesh cos my eyebrows are really dark. Its actually lightened my hair! I'm so annoyed with the ppl who make this bloody hair colour! Its nowhere near chocolate!

She said to use the Loreal one i have now bought, to do anything with it she would need to go and buy the colour but the wholsesalers is shut so would use a box from the shop, so it would just be her putting it on my head rather than me! lol

I am sure once the brown goes on it will be ok.

Part of me wants to go and do it now. OH is watching football. Shall i just go do it now??!!

Go and do it! look at it this way....it can go three ways

    1) you put it on, it works - problem solved

    2) you put it on, it doesnt work, your friend fixes it for you when the shops open again problem solved.

    3) you wait for your friend to put another colour on - problem solved

And if 1 doesnt happen, then skip 2 and go straight to 3 Smiley winking

You will be fine. Last month I had my (half highlighted) hair dyed dark blonde in a salon. It came out greyish blonde on the highlighted sections and ginger on my natural hair. I think I wrote in OT about it. I didn't have enough money to go to a hairdresser to sort it out either, so close to the wedding. A couple of days ago I bought a light brown at home hair dye - everyone warned me against it, but I did it anyway - and now my hair looks great.

It probably went ginger because the colour was too warm for your skin tone, go for neutral shades in future Smiley smile

I tried to go from blonde to brown, with brown my natural colour, in a salon, I went totally ginger and cried my eyes out! Went back after work the next day and 2 dark brown dyes on that didn't do anything I then had to have the darkest black dye on to make me a mid brown, I don't know if it was the hairdresser or my hair that wouldn't take but never been back since lol

Maybe you have hair that doesnt take like mine, try the home one and then get your mate round to sort it if needed x

Omg this is EXACTLY what happened to me, only mine happened 2 days before the wedding and i couldnt afford to have it changed back at a salon due to having no money left! i started crying at the hairdressers and she came with me to boots to find a new hair dye to stick on top. You need a hair dye without any peroxide in it, or 'warm' in the name of the dye, or just go to a salon. it will all turn out ok in the end!

Keep us posted- I had a disater a few months back with ColourB4 which was supposed to make my hair back to its natural colour...it went orange at the roots and a sort of greeny blonde at the tips- needless to say I dispatched MrMini to the 24 hour asda to try and find a dark brown dye to cover it all up!

    Good Luck!

It still looks red to me. Mainly round the roots which makes it look patchy. I cried for 10 mins. ☹️

I agree with rebeccaLou - could it be cos you know the red is there that you are noticing it more?

I am dreading dying mine, because at the moment it will clash with my dress so am dying my hair a deep red/wine for the wedding but at the moment its fushia pink!

aw hair disasters are a nightmare. I had kept dying my hair "brown" over time and it went black eventually. My hairdresser friend stripped it and put a brown in and it turned out ok. when mine was stripped it was a bit scary tho. the build up of colour left my tips ginger and the roots blonde! She had told me that reds are hard to get out of your hair and cover up. Try to use a shampoo that will take the colour out a bit, even go swimming so the chlorine has a go as well. then see if your friend can dye it for you. If you can afford colour remover you could try it. I got a hair dyr out of B&M bargains, and it was only a couple of pounds. It was DermaV or something like that but was very good. They do colou removers as well for not too much, if you want to go that drastic. Have you another friend, who could come and help for moral support?
