Hair & Make Up Contract?

Miss-b, 12 April, 2016 at 11:57 Posted on Planning 0 7

I am looking to secure the lady I have been talking to about my hair and make up for the wedding within the next few days.

She doesn't do written contracts as such, but I didn't know if this was something MUA normally do? I'm not sure if I'm being OTT?

She actually works for the hotel I am getting married at in their beauty rooms / spa.

Have other people had contracts?

Thanks x

Yes, I have a contract laying out exactly what/who she's doing, and what would happen 'in the event of...'

I'd expect something in writing, as well as a deposit payment.

I think I have a vague outline of a contract on email and have paid a deposit payment, but thinking about it don't have anything as set out as my venue/photographer contract.

    I feel confident though...

I have a contract with my MUA but when I got married previously and used the hotel spa's MUA like you are, then I didn't have a contract. Maybe hotels / spas just don't really do them...?

I must be the other extreme. My contract is 5 pages long! It details what happens in the event of unforeseen circumstances (they will supply another MUA or give a full refund), payment details for both trial and final balance, cancellation policy, travel fees, and the policy for adding on extra hours/services on the day. It also lists exactly when they will show up, all location information, and contact information for the other vendors I've hired. You can always draft your own contract just to get the basics in writing or send an email that spells out all the details and ask for confirmation from her.

I feel confident that I won't have any issues with her, I've seen some of her work and its all very nice!

I do have a string of emails where we are discussing what I want and where she outlines what she will do, confirms the price and deposit etc and we have even talked about what she does in the event of an emergency or illness.

I think I'm happy with this, as I'm confident with her and as she has links to the hotel we are getting married at, rather than being a freelance for example, I'll take the gamble, rather than pushing her for a contract!

The email chain will be fine I imagine. If something happened to her and you had to get another stylist at least you would have proof of what was to be done and the cost.

As you say though if she has a big link to the hotel then it will probably be fine.
