Hair & Make Up! So confused :-/

Miss-b, 17 March, 2016 at 10:59 Posted on Planning 0 12

Hi Ladies,

I need/want to get hair and make up booked for my wedding ASAP, but I'm just a bit confused/over loaded with options!!

I will be staying at the hotel we get married at the night before the wedding, so ideally need someone that comes to me. We don't get married until 2.30pm so we should have plenty of time.

I'm looking at my make up and hair and then hair for my MOH and 2 junior bridesmaides and maybe my Mum.

Would I be better to get a lady that can do both hair and make up, or 2 separate ladies? I don't have a usual hairdresser, so not as if I can ask them to do my hair!

I also don't have a huge budget, so ideally need someone reasonable!

I'm just starting to panic as I can't seem to make a decision but I'm running out of time!

Does anyone have any suggestions for hair and make up in Northampton?

Thanks x

I've found that getting someone who does both tends to work out cheaper rather than having two seperate people - or else you have to pay 2 lots of petrol 2 lots of people's time etc x

I'm having separate ladies, because I already have trusted Hairdressers.

Hairdresser 1 will do me, my mum & my nan

Hairdresser 2 will do my 3 Adult BMs

Hairdresser 3 will do my Flowergirls.

Yes, I have 3 Hairdressers haha we're getting Married at 12pm and need to travel 30 mins to the venue, so it makes more sense time wise for us.

The Makeup lady will come over and do my Makeup and maybe my Mum's.

I think someone who does both would probably save you some money, but probably not time. It depends whether they have a 'team.' If you go for 2 separate people, you can have hair and makeup done at the same time.

This really confused me as well! I think it is cheaper to get one person to do both hair and makeup from the different websites I've looked at. I've booked someone who will do both and because it is me and my 3 bridesmaids getting hair and makeup she is bringing along an "additional artist" who is just an extra 50 pounds plus mileage, which is much cheaper than getting two separate people. Hope you manage to find someone who will be good for you Smiley smile

Agree with the above, most HMUA's will be used to large bridal parties so they will know whether they can fit you all in or whether they will need to bring along a second person.

I'm having separate because I'm using my normal hairdresser so I can't comment on the price difference.

Miss-b, I'm a Northampton Bride too! Where are you getting married? I'm having Beauty Angels do our hair and make up, they are a bit expensive though, you could probably get it cheaper, they were recommended by our venue and it's one of the things I'm slightly nervous about as make up is so personal, that's why I've chosen them as they've got such good reviews.

Does your venue have any recommend suppliers? X

Thanks ladies! I had thought that it probably would be cheaper to get someone that can do both, rather than two separate!

Poppy_24 I'm getting married at Sedgebrook Hall in Chapel Brampton in August!! What about you? Yes the venue has recommended a couple, BUT both don't have prices on the website which makes me think they are expensive! I think that's the exact reason I'm a bit hesitant and confused as make up is so personal and its important that we feel good on th day.

I'm going to sit down this weekend and try and whittle it down!

Miss-b I've just noticed your date. Can I recommend that you don't leave it much longer? I booked my MUA a year ago and I know that she is already booked up for 2016 and most of 2017, so I would try and book something sooner rather than later.

We're getting married at Dodmoor House Miss-b. Have you managed to narrow it down to anyone yet?

Are you using any other local suppliers? It would be interesting if we're using the same!!

Ooooo I LOVED the look of Dodmoor but it was just outside our budget unfortunately, so we didn't even go and see it, as I didn't want to fall in love and then be heart broken!

I'm using a guy called Karl Smart for my photography, the hotel is catering our wedding, so not had to get a caterer, I'm using an out of area florist as she is known to our family, and I still need to sort DJ and a few other bits. I haven't narrowed it down for make up and hair yet, but just been so busy with work last week!

How are you getting on with the planning?

Cost wise it would probably be cheaper to have one person to do both. But time wise two separate people would be better as the MUA can be doing your makeup whilst someone's hair is being done.

Email some people who's portfolios you like the look of and get quotes. That way you can work out what's the best option for you. You may find a hairdresser or MUA who you love the look of and they don't do both and so decide to have separate. Or you may find the cost difference is big and choose one who does both.

It's usually quite a bit cheaper to have one person doing both but they often have a limit on how many people they can do. Took me a bit of searching but eventually found someone reasonably priced who could do hair and makeup for me and three bridesmaids. Wedding is at 2pm, MUA arriving 7am! but worth it for what I'm saving. I generally found that if they don't have at least guideline prices on the website then they tend to be quite pricey but I did find the vendor I ended up with by emailing one vendor for prices and they were fully booked at recommended the person i went with, i wouldn't have found her otherwise.

I second everything Aimee said. Normally cheaper for one person but timing may be better off with two. Just have a look about ask questions about timing to different people and see what people say.

As you only need makeup for yourself and no one else I think you'll need to find someone that can do hair and makeup as a mua will not come out for just a bride on a Saturday .

I cover Northamptonshire but my minimum for a wedding is bride plus 2 adults for makeup on the wedding day.
