Hair weirdness....

Jumbly Girl, 17 April, 2010 at 19:14 Posted on Planning 0 17

Hey all! Just had my hair and make up trial today and it all went fantastically well and I felt amazing when finished, except that three hours after leaving the hair salon my hair looks rubbish (and that'll be the time that I'll be walking down the aisle). I suspect it's because my hair is so used to hard London water and that lovely soft Scottish water just doesn't do the trick anymore. One side of my head held the curls really well, but the other side is pretty lank and flat - so much so that the makeup lady asked me when my hair trial was and I was ashamed to say that I'd just had it done. I doubt that anyone's got any advice, but has anyone had any similar water issues and is there a way around it? Feeling a bit blue now....

When i did hairdressing we always suggested to clients not to wash their hair the night before as this can make your hair too soft. Not saying this will work and maybe you would rather wash your hair but maybe it's worth a try? Other than that lots if mousse when your hair is wet then dry and loads of hairspray at the end Smiley smile

Thanks Vicki. My hairdresser wanted to treat it before styling so she washed it first - which I was surprised about too, as I thought she'd tell me not to wash it on the day. She also used tons and tons of mousse. I suspect the soft water and the fact that my hair is so fine is causing problems, but I hope there's a solution because I don't want to feel this rubbish on my wedding day!

I know the feeling. My hair never feels clean in Cambridge. It's strange.

You're right. I have two days, probably need three for it to really settle down. I really hope this is the problem and I can find a way around it! Are you Scottish too then?

I have really soft and fine hair which doesn't hold a curl well at all....a perm even fell out of my hair overnight. Oh the shame that I even had a perm but in my defence it was 15 years ago!

For my wedding hairdo the hairdresser put tons of setting lotion on, then rollers and then under one of those heat blasting drying machines. It was the only way my hair was going to stay put but my curls were then pinned in place in an up do.

I did go to one hairdressers for a trial that just couldn't curl my hair at all so I changed because she just didn't have enough experience to know what to do.

Maybe you should rethink the style you want so you aren't worrying about it falling flat?

    Hey PG,

Good to know I'm not the only one. It's weird because I'm getting my hair done by the hairdresser who cut my hair growing up - she even did my hair for all my school dances, so she's definitely experienced etc. Thing is - it used to curl fine back in those days. Hence why I think it's a problem with my hair getting used to southern water. I'm going to have another chat with her and let her know how it went and see what she thinks. I suspect I'll be sleeping in curlers the night before!

I have really fine hair, as do many of my friends....and we are all into vintage style so curling our hair has become a regular thing. We all use something called Pomade. It's heavier than your usual mousses and lotions so try it out waaay before the big day as it takes a few goes to wash out

She curled it using a barrel brush and the hairdryer first, then popped curlers in and stuck me under the blower thingy for about 30 mins. Maybe I should pop down on the Friday evening and sleep with the curlers in. It's just strange because my hair is really not at all poker straight - it's quite wavy/curly!

Tons! She applied a treatment when she washed it and then loads and loads of mousse (she commented that she was deliberately putting tons in). Plus she used some kind of spray as she was blow drying it but I forgot to ask what it was. When she finished she sprayed something else to 'hold' it without it being sticky. FM - any advice/tips would be marvellous - as I said, I've been using this hairdresser for years and the only thing that's changed is that I've been living down south and washing my hair in hard water for the last 5 years, so I think it might be related. My hair is always manky (e.g. shampoo is hard to wash out) for a couple of days when I go home while it gets used to the water.

She may have used a treatment with to much moisture in (most treatments have a mixture of protein and moisture and u addapt to what the hair needs)maybe have a treatment a couple of days before the wedding if ur hair needs another one.

salon treatments normally stay in the hair for five washes, that might of weighed ur hair down to much. she might of used one that smoothed out ur curls a little to much!!

just phone her and say it really didnt hold x
