Hair will not grow!

MrsWendy2016, 22 June, 2014 at 22:31 Posted on Planning 0 16

Hi Ladies,

Looking for some hair advice here. I really want to grow my hair super long by the time I get married in 2016. My aim is that once I am married I can cut my hair short and donate it to charity to be made into a wig, but in order to do this your hair needs to be 10 inches + from where they cut it off! I've been growing my hair for a while now (about 2 years) but it seems to have reached an optimum length in what I have now (see image below. Excuse the cocktails - only one was mine!). It has been a lot longer in the past. I just don't get it! I take better care of my hair than I ever did when it was longer and yet it still refuses to grow! ☹️??

Any ideas on what I might be doing wrong/what I can start doing?

Thanks,

Sara xxxx

Everyone's hair has a maximum length it will grow to before it falls out. There's very little you can do to change it I'm afraid. Mine used to be the same and would only grow about as long as yours. Hormones etc mean it's now the best it's ever been and grows quite a way down my back. When younger I wanted it really long but no way. Chat with a hairdresser they might be able to recommend something. You can take supplements for hair and nails that could help too.

    Hi Pammy67,

Tahnks for the advice. My hairdresser said pretty much the same as you! I'm a bit gutted as I had hair I could sit on when I was younger and cut my hair into a bob at 17 only to have it grow to around 10 inches by the time I was 21. I'll just look after it as best I can and cross my fingers!

    What a lovely idea.

My hair is terrible pretty much gets to shoulder length then just stops!! My sister did hairdressing at college she recommended kerestase shampoo and one monthly deep conditioning treatments. I don't have the patience I think hair extensions may well end up an option for me.

Was trying to grow my hair out once and just getting nowhere and tried the Lee Stafford 'for hair that doensn't grow past a certain length' (or something) treatment. Without trying to sound like I work for them, It really worked! Wasn't trying to grow it anywhere as long as you, but that kind a thing could be worth a go? Last I saw (not using it now) there's more of a range of it -shampoo etc too. Could be worth a try? Good luck!

A huge part of hair breakage is touching/brushing hair, blow drying and straightening/curling, and things like hairspray. I grew my hair a ridiculous amount really quickly by following my hairdressers advice to do as little as possible to it. I would wash it before bed and go I bed with it wet, if it was a nice wavy in the morning then I would wear it down with no product, and if not then it went straight up in a bulldog clip which doesn't by snap it the way a bobble does.

    Good luck!

Your hair is the same length as mine + mine is really thin mine, for a very short while it was slightly long by about 3 inches but I got split ends needed a trim and its never grown that extra few inches again and I have been growing most my life it will not go past the length of your at all

which is annoying because my OH family's hair is thick and grow down to their butts :'(

I'm in exactly the same boat, my hairs the same length but has been longer. I've only got 4.5 months to my wedding so I'm not holding out much hope. I'm going to take some supplements - mainly for my skin but they're supposed to help hair growth. Other than that just treat it really well, give your scalp a good massage whenever you wash as this is supposed to stimulate the follicles (!) and as the other poster said, expose it to minimal heat and damage!

Ive been taking hair and nail supplements and my hair has grown loads...I also have it cut more often which sounds strange but seems to make it grow more. Before this my hair was stuck at just below shoulder length..now its halfway down my back.

Thanks everybody! In a weird way it's good to hear some ladies are in the same thin hair/breaking hair boat as me and I'm not the only one! I will be trying the Lee Stafford Big Fat Hair stuff and will invest in some skin, hair and nails supplement too. Might invest in the Keratese too as I've heard they are good for blondes as well. I've been away on a PGL water-sports holiday with school and my hair seems to be really sad and damaged at the moment! Lots of TLC in order I think.

I'll report back when things have had chance to kick in. Meanwhile, if anyone has any other miracle cures let me know!

Thanks again everyone, you're all so nice on here!

Mine was just a little shorter than yours when I started trying to grow it. I haven't had so much as a trim since october, I wash it every three days and make sure only to condition the bottom half and it is now past the middle of my back. I never straighten or curl it so the above advice to do as little as possible sounds good to me!

I do need to stop washing it so often. Where I was in the sea twice a day for 10 days (and wearing skanky hats that all sorts of kids have worn - yuck!) I've been washing everyday just to get the grime out. I need to trim mine as I get terrible split ends which get quite big Smiley sad

I was also thinking of getting some of that Tresemmé that's been on TV, the one that reverses two years with of damage. Anyone used it and had success with it?

    Hi,

I don't have any advice about growing it faster but I did the same thing as you and donated my hair to The Little Princess Trust who accept 7 inches of hair. I ended up donating 9 inches to make sure the shortest layers also met the minimum 7 inches and have a lovely graduated bob. Good luck.

Thanks F&GBride! I've just had a look at the website and it's quite amazing how many little girls are also donating their hair. I really hope mine grows now!
