Hairdressers in Kent - HELP!

Dollyrockerz, 13 May, 2011 at 13:02 Posted on Planning 0 19

I think I've messed up by not booking my hairsdresser soon enough, it's 3 and a half months till the wedding and so far everyone I have found is either ridiculously expensive or booked up. The hairdresser I've been going to for the last 3 years is busy that weekend and being a bank holiday Sunday I'm not surprised.

I have one possible but she wants £30 travelling expenses, plus the hair and makeup with trials comes out at £200 ? Is that the going rate these days? The other problem is that I don't know this girl, what if she is rubbish and I end up stuck with her?

Should I just count my blessings that I found someone at all and suck it up? ☹️

If anyone can recommend a mobile hairdresser in the Kent/East Sussex area I would really appreciate it.

Nervousbride, seriously, start asking now or you'll end up in my position!

Lauren - I haven't really given it much thought ? some kind of up-do I guess but nothing hugely elaborate! I'm planning to have a birdcage veil with some sort of fascinator that I can wear without the veil in the evening.

Lauren - sounds like you're about 45 minutes from T Wells - doable. Don't know any hairdressers in that neck of the woods, but make you a fascinator.

Google says 40 minutes, I've not been to Bluewater in a while but I think that's about right

Thank you for offering Lauren, that's very kind of you. Shall I let you know after your wedding if I get really stuck?

Fascinator = Fancy hair clip ?

EDIT - This is the one who has said she is available http://joyofbeauty.co.uk/default.aspx has anyone heard of them?

You know all those feathery things at the Royal wedding, sometimes with net, set on a comb, alice band or mini hat, thats a fascinator.

    e.g.

I was just going to reply to you and suggest Clara. She did my hair and makeup, as well as my 2 bms and a blow dry for my mum. She was lovely, really reasonably priced too I think.

I can send you some piccies of our hair/makeup if it would help?

(Not to worry you, but in my case her assistant called in sick - at 5.30am on the morning of my wedding. To her credit Clara didn't stress, just started 30 minutes earlier and got everyone done in plenty of time. I was even ready early I think! Sure it woudn't happen again though! And she does normally work alone I think, the 2nd lady was more to do my mum's blow dry and possibly my MIL - but she changed her mind anyway)

I got the recommendation from another bride on here - really sorry but can't remember who - so she has done a few Hitched weddings!

HTH and let me know if you want any other info!

Twickers, thank you for that I'm feeling ab it calmer now I klnow someone has used her before, if you could send a picture that wouldf be brilliant. Did she do make up for you too? I'm in 2 mionds about getting my make up done, I don't normally wear much and don''t want to be done up like a drag queen on the day!

I guess I'll have to grin and bear the costs, foolish me only budgeted £50 for hair ?

Yes, she did my makeup and the makeup for one of my bms (one didn't want hers done). I wear make up every day, and quite often end up doing my friends too. But for the wedding I thought it was a pressure I could do without! At my trial Clara was brilliant, talked to me quite a bit about the look I wanted, what makeup I normally wore etc. After she had done the trial we had a cup of tea and chatted through what I wanted tweaking for the day (nothing on my hair - I loved what she had done!) - I just wanted a bit more concealer on my horrible eye bags and some more mascara as it is my obsession! I felt really reassured that she was taking the time to listen and really understand how I wanted to look/what I would feel comfortable wearing plus offering some expert advice (eg. I noramlly hate foundation as I'm so pale - but she convinced me!).

I'll try and find some photos.....

    Hiya

Clara did the hair and make-up for my wedding last year. She is brilliant, she did my make-up, my mum's and three bridesmaids and all of our hair ! she had an assistant with her, who was just as good as Clara. If she is free then I would snap her up.

I am actually on her website ? !!

As to cost - I found her costs to be really reasonable compared to other quotes I had. I was getting a bit despondent too, thinking I would end up doing it myself as I left it til January to find someone for the wedding on March 5th (silly me!). I put a shout out on Hitched and the rest is history!

    Here are some photos!

Clara doing my BMs makeup (and my BM trying to break in her shoes by wearing socks with them and her tracky bums - very classy!)

Doing my makeup - not a great photo of the hair but it's been 'done' at this point!

This isn't the best photo of me as I'm trying really hard not to cry - had just got to the top of the aisle! But hope it gives a bit of a picture of how my hair was....... (Can also see the yummy extra lashes she gave me - wish I could have them every day!)

I'm at work at the moment so haven't got many photos - but could probably dig out more if you wanted....

I usually go to the Kensington hair salon and it’s curious if they have services of mobile hairdresser. They have some hairdressers in London, maybe you should ask them?
