Half price photo offer

willow_rose , 17 July, 2015 at 13:58 Posted on Planning 0 3

Good afternoon fellow planners.

I have stumbled across a photographer offering a half price deal if booked before July. Full day (8) hour coverage and 400 to 500 edited photos on USB stick. Had a quick look and photos look great. We were thinking of going down the family/friend route but this seemed like a great offer. The lady emailed me back straight away asking lots of questions etc. I will obviously do some research on the photographer/company first but why do you all think? Is that a good a deal as I think it is (providing she is what we are after)

Tight budget and couldn't justify 1000s on a photographer but don't want to regret not having a professional in after the day.

Let me know your thoughts.

Thanks. Smiley smile

Be wary that the lady may have very little experience of any kind of paid photography. Ask her to send you passwords for three client galleries so you can privately view 3 weddings delivered to previous brides. If she refuses don't proceed.

If she is willing to show you real weddings and her work is what you're after then go ahead!

Be aware that some new startup wedding photographers may supply worse images than what your family & friends would.

It's nice that they are keen to cover your day and it is important that you seem to "click" with them Smiley smile Do look at the price you are paying as opposed to thinking of it as a half price deal (have others paid full price or is it a permanent offer?).

Best of Luck with your planning.

As well as obviously checking out Facebook / Google reviews etc. make sure you see a 'full day' gallery rather than just the photographer's favourite shots which will always be the best ones!

What the others have said really. THE most important question to ask is to see previous weddings they've covered.

I see a lot of 'special offers' from various photographers on Facebook. Call me a cynic but I can only think of two reasons for slashing your price by 50%

    1. The photographer isn't busy, is struggling for bookings so trying to fill free dates by lowering their price.
    2. The usual price has been artificially inflated just to run a special offer.

For what it's worth, like most wedding photographers I keep a close eye on the competition and without exception the professionals whom I know turn out consistently high quality photographs would never discount by 50%. You may get lucky and get 10% off them but not 50%.

I don't know what their discounted price is and neither have I seen their work so it's impossible to say either way if this is the real deal or just a desperate roll of the dice for the photographer.

Lastly, if this is really a genuine offer then their work has to stand up to the higher price tag. So let's say their usual price is £1000 and they are doing it for £500. For it to be a real 'deal' then their work has to be of a high enough standard that you'd be happy to have paid £1000. If you wouldn't and it's only really worth £500 then it's not really a genuine offer.

    Hope that all makes sense.
