Hampshire Brides - anybody out there?

MissWin, 31 January, 2012 at 18:00 Posted on Planning 0 50

Hi ya,

Was curious to know if there are any other Hampshire brides out there? Would love to say hi and also find out about your venues. We are looking at 3 next week (our first ones) but must admit, I am struggling to find places that look like the kind that I will love, within a reasonable price range! Was hoping to get some inspiration!

Hope to catch up soon,

Rach x

HI ya roseability! I love barn venues. We are going to look at the Clock Barn in Tufton Warren but reckon the price will make my other half want to cry! Is it a bit rude/cheeky to ask roughly how much that all cost you? Petersfield wouldn't be too bad a journey for us x

    Hi,

I'm in Hampshire. Halfway between Southampton and Winchester. We are getting married at our local parish church and will be having the reception at the DeVere New Place.

What sort of venue are you after?

Hi Tracy, you must live close to me as that is exactly how I would describe where I live! I would love a venue that is quite old and has some character (we have an appointment to view New Place!). I don't want to get married in a room that looks like it has a flip chart and some corporate team building going on the rest of the week! x

I'm in Southampton. We're having our reception at the Rose Bowl. I've stayed at New Place before and it was really nice.

    Hi there!

I'm getting married in Hampshire- Norton Park Hotel in Sutton Scotney. Having the ceremony in the barn, drinks/canapes outside if weather good and then wedding breakfast and evening reception in the Norton Suite

Lovely venue - lots of good photo opportunities with the garden and lake......

Hi I am Hampshire too! There does seem to be quite a few of us, I live near Fareham and am getting married in St Marys Church Portchester castle and then having the reception at Explosion Museum in Gosport. I have found them to be really flexible on suppliers and a lot cheaper than some of the barns I looked at (on quite a restricted budget).

ETA: just checked my emails and I believe the Tithe Barn is £3000-£3500 to hire with catering on top. (But those were in 2009)

Ooh, there are quite a few of us!

Another cheeky question for the lady having a Norton Park wedding - how much are we looking at? I haven't been able to see much on t'internet and was unable to get an appointment to have a look on the day I wanted (have to fit it around kids being in childcare). Sounds like a nice one though

Did anyone look at Chilworth Manor? It is really close to where we live. We are viewing it next week but I have a suspicion it might be a bit too 'twee' for my taste, if you know what I mean

The Solent Hotel is really nice. Love the lobby with all the wood. Would probably consider it but I work in Whiteley! Feels a bit too close to work! x

Yeah I know what you mean Miss Win, it is just up the road from where we live but before November we had never been in there! We wanted to stay local because of the church so has actually worked out perfectly for us!

I am actually having my wedding at Chilworth manor and they have been very good so far. I dont think it's twee at all. The ceremony room is used for meetings etc but you'd never know that when its being used for a wedding. We're in the Lord Selbourne suite- the smaller room for the reception.-Don't be put off by how it looks normally. Balloonique can do amazing things with it! The coach house is larger but they both have their own bars. Chilworth usually have a wedding open evening in February when you can meet suppliers and see it properly dressed. Let me know if I can help further.

New Place was the only venue we looked at! Had a short think about Marwell and East Horton Golf course but soon ruled them out due to animals and golf!! Once we'd been to New Place we decided that we didn't want to look anywhere else so booked it.

I got my dress from The Ivory Boutique in winchester. They have sample sales where the first 10th dresses sold are £300. I managed to be the 10th person last Aug, so lucky.

    Hi all,

Think we may have made some progress today. We are now looking at Winchester Guildhall for the ceremony (the King Charles Hall) and then the Holiday Inn Winchester (never in a million years imagined we would choose this but the place is lovely!)

How is everyone else getting on with their wedding plans?
