Handbag zip help

Holly Bags, 3 September, 2010 at 23:09 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 6

The very lovely and generous MrHB noticed how tragic my handbag had become and has bought me a ver ver lovely new one, BUT, the zip is a bit stiff. What can I do that won't mark the leather and yet will make the zip run smoother?

Try a cotton bud dipped in some kind of oil run carefully across the zip. Just don't let it drip and do it slowly. Could try baby oil or Vaseline?

I was going to suggest WD-40. I try that on everything! ?

And lovely Mr HB! Is it a fancy bag?

I would run a pencil lead over the zip, the graphite lubricates the zip and you are less likely to damage the leather than using oil.

Thanks for this! I just tried the graphite trick and it's improved things but I think I need to try a bit of oil too. It's leather rather than suede so oil should wipe off I think. It's not fancy, it's a plain black zippy shoulder bag.

A bar of soap is good or a bit of fairy liquid
