Handmade Wedding Invitations (first attempt) . . . opinions?

Sarah-Em, 2 April, 2011 at 19:28 Posted on Planning 0 16

I've been half dreading/half looking forward to this moment for ages, I decided to have a go at making our own wedding invites, I enjoy this kind of thing but am a perfectionist and am scared to death of messing it up (plus the bonus of it being cheaper than buying them swayed me).

This is my first attempt, what do you reckon:

The pictures are a little blurry, the invites themselves are ivory and the background colour is sage/olive green.

Overall I'm pleased with them, but I can't help but feel they're lacking something, I'm just not sure what? I did buy little gemstones to add to them, but they didn't look right so I've left them off.

I love them! Beautiful colours. If you think they need something else, how about little strip of ribbon in the green colour to wrap around the outside from top to bottom (iykwim).

I think they're great. I'd love to make my own but I honestly have absolutely no idea where I'd even start to do something like that

I agree. I think ribbon would work well.

where did you get them from if you don't mind? I wanted this style and was going to get them made but if I can do them for cheaper mysel then that's more money into the honeymoon pot

LMR I bought mine from pocketfoldinvites.co.uk but you can get them elsewhere, just google pocketfold DIY invites and you should get something.

They are fab - well done!! now the fun begins of making loads of them!! I didn't get pocket fold ones, but the card i did get (after EXTENSIVE research), i got from a website called mad about cards - they were excellent quality and was really pleased with them! they totally looked handmade though as i am not a naturally arty person, but everyone seemed to love them and i really enjoyed making them (although it was hard work, but got easier with wine!!) ?

I got it all from https://www.pdacardandcraft.co.uk/, I did some extensive research and found them to be the cheapest place, plus they had all the bits and pieces I needed to put the invites together and offer discounts for bulk buying and a free gift if you spend over certain amounts. They deliver pretty quick too and it all came well packaged, so overall a great place to buy from if you're going to make your own.

I found the stamp on eBay, you could order it either as a rubber stamp or have it put into a self inking stamp (which is what I did for ease accuracy when having to stamp probably 100+ invites), it came from America, this was the guy;http://myworld.ebay.co.uk/lovetocreatestamps2008/

Just noticed he doesn't seem to be selling anything on eBay lately, however this appears to be the same person on Etsy; https://www.etsy.com/shop/lovetocreatestamps

Thank you for all your lovely comments, I now feel very positive and confident about getting stuck in to making them in bulk and getting them sent out. I am toying with the idea of adding a strip of ribbon, I think it would finish it off nicely, I'm just having positioning issues as if I have it going from top to bottom it covers up my 'created by' stamp on the back, so looking at all different positions.

The annoying thing is I even already have the ideal ribbon (a kind of sage green organza), but I've only got about 30cm and haven't got a clue where I got it from, so I'll need to go searching the Net to try to find it again.

They are lovely, well done to you. How about a little swarovski gem or something sparkly on the front where your initials are?? xx

Do you mind if I ask how much you think they'll work out at per invite? Am trying to work out if it's worth me giving it a go to make them or whether the price I've negotiated with someone is ok.

    Thanks x

    They're fab, talented lady!

If you've just a little ribbon a short bit coming out from the bottom for the "seal" on the outside with a v cut in it would look pretty. Otherwise for a more organic look tying it with raffia would look lovely (cream or green or mixed).
