Happy but also very frustrated

SoontobeMrsR, 13 September, 2014 at 10:52 Posted on Planning 0 6

We get married one week from today and I am so excited I don't know what to do with myself lol.

i think everything is sorted except a few small things which I will nailed down this weekend.

the only black spot on the horizon is that our landlady won't fix the boiler. We have had no hot water for 2 weeks already and have family coming to stay at the house on Friday. We have emailed phoned a number of times but she is simply ignoring us. I know it sounds pathetic but it makes me want to cry. I've been having cold showers at 5am to get ready for work and now it seems OH and the family won't get a hot shower the day of the wedding! Any advice ladies?

That really sucks! This happened to my friend a while back (but she wasn't getting married) and they claimed money back for the hassle of driving to other peoples houses just for a hot shower. Is there anywhere else you and your OH can stay, just so you can have at least 1 hot shower before the big day?

Good luck with it and don't let it bring you down

Aww, sweetie, what a nightmare. I would email and explain you're getting married and desperately need it to be fixed, maybe even tell her you will book someone to do it and send her the bill if she doesn't get it sorted? Good luck for your big day! If all else fails boil a few kettles :-)

Do this. I would. At the end of the day, her responsibility as landlady is to provide a functioning home, and hot water is a basic necessity. If she keeps dragging her heels, request some money off of the rent for the months you have been without, as your home isn't really suitable to be able to wash properly and stay warm in.

Enjoy your week leading up to your big day Smiley smile

I had a similar problem where my boiler would sometimes not give me hot water or heating but it was very random and the landlords agents even said the boiler needs replacing but he basically just ignored them. I emailed the local council as even tho it was a private letting the council have a duty to make sure private tenants houses are functioning properly. The council called me back straight away, but there was nothing they could do as i did get some hot water, they explained to me that if i didnt get any hot water at all thats when they would step in. So i think you have a good case here

Prob wont be sorted before your wedding now but hopefully you can stay with family in the run up and get it sorted after xx

Email/call her tonight and tell her that given her lack of contact you will be getting someone round on Monday to fix the boiler and will arrange for the invoice to be sent to her. It is totally unacceptable and illegal for her to leave you with no boiler for two weeks.

    UPDATE

well the new boiler is due to be fitted tomorrow, finally! Get a phone call from the plumber this evening to tell us he's done his back in and may not be able to complete the boiler fitting. Have to admit to going completely bridezilla?

can only wait now to see what happens tomorrow, do not need this 4 days before the wedding!!
