Harp music for the ceremony - ideas needed!

Mwnci, 16 January, 2009 at 09:27 Posted on Planning 0 1

Hiya

6 weeks to go and I'm actually getting my arse into gear so we're seeing a harpist tonight. She'll be playing during the ceremony and drinks reception. Atm the pieces I'd like her to play are Welsh hymns so a no-go for the ceremony itself so I just wondered if anyone had any ideas for entrance/signing the register/exit music that would be effective on the harp.

I'll have a chat with her tonight to see what she recommends but I'd like to stay away from anything too common (in my last wedding I had the Imperial March for my grand entrance - not on the harp admittedly - and it worked really well and was taken in the tongue in cheek way we'd intended which was good)

Thanks Smiley smile

We had a harpist for our ceremony and we had lots of classical pieces. She gave us a list of the music she could play so I assume your harpist will do the same. One thing I was unaware of until we spoke with the registrar was that hymns are not an automatic no no. Because it is music and there are no words they are sometimes allowed, you just need to get approval from the head of registrars. We were told that as it was only music rather than singing it was likely that it would be approved. Just a thought if you are quite set on the welsh hymns. Obviously approve with registrar before you make a definate choice.

A good point. I shall ring the registrar! (I need to make an appointment to choose readings etc anyway)

Edited to add - it's a no go, anything sung in church is not an option. They're very strict!
