Has anyone decided to skip the wedding breakfast?

Titch83, 13 January, 2013 at 21:27 Posted on Planning 0 5

Hi all, first post so not sure what I'm doing. I'm looking at planning our wedding this year or next but I'm just trying to avoid having to invite people to the wedding breakfast just because they are family. I was thinking of getting married later in the afternoon then after the wedding having drinks and canapés. Then followed by the evening reception. I wouldn't mind having a reception but with a complicated family I just feel it would be easier to avoid. Any suggestions or opinions would be great many thanks Smiley smile

Welcome! Sounds a perfectly acceptable idea to me ? and certainly not out of the ordinary.

I'm not too keen on the full breakfast thing (other than in the morning ?) so looking at a 2pm ceremony with afternoon tea, followed by hog roast/bbq in the evening. that way people can have something light at lunch time while we all get ready, what will be a much needed cuppa afterwards, then 'proper' food later

Thank you for your reply. Feel a bit better after speaking to some friends who think it may also be a good idea. Do you plan on doing speeches still? Just wondering when you would do them? I went to a wedding fayre yesterday and found the perfect venue so really want to get the ball rolling and book for early next year Smiley smile

Personlly I'm not too bothered by speeches. IT will be second time round for each of us, so we've done the big traditional thing already. If anyone wants to say something they will be more than welcome, but we will just go with it on the day and see what happens.

Not sure about when - maybe once everyone was in the room with a drink in hand and before the canapes came out?

My friend is having a 3pm wedding, no formal sit down meal, we're all making or own way from church to reception venue and she's having a hot buffet for day time and evening guests together a bit later no. No probs! I'm not sure what she's doing about cake cutting and speeches but I imagine they'll do that over drinks before the buffet opens?

Think this is the way we are goin to do it. Don't have a big budget but enough to have a lovely wedding. Just hope people will enjoy it and not get bored Smiley smile

    Hi,

Im having a late ceremony at 3/3:30pm then straight on to reception with BBQ buffet, bouncy castle drinks and dancing. We are going to fit cake cutting and speeches in when people having a drink while the foods cooking on the BBQ..
