Has anyone ever made Truffles?

avintagebride, 12 November, 2010 at 14:42 Posted on Planning 0 20

How easy is it? How feasible is to make 100 yourself? ?

Do you think it would be cheaper than to buy 100?

Desperately trying to save money somewhere!

I've made them and they're easy peasy! Made about 30 for Christmas but it shouldn't take much more effort to make more... As long as you can follow a recipe you'll be fine

My SIL made some one Xmas and she made loads in a matter of an hour or so, they look easy enough to do but then again I have never made them and they did taste rather yummy.

    Ingredients

    125g plain chocolate

    50g unsalted butter

    125g trifle sponge cakes, crumbled

    50g icing sugar

25ml dark rum, brandy, or liqueur of your choice, - go to chocolate martini recipe page for some more chocolate liqueur combination ideas.

50g cocoa powder, icing sugar or chocolate vermicelli - for your choice of chocolate truffle covering.

Melt the chocolate with the butter. Stir in the cake crumbs, icing sugar and spirit or liqueur of your choice.

Cover and refrigerate for about 30 minutes or until the mixture is firm enough to handle.

Dust your fingers with icing sugar and roll the truffle mixture into 24 small balls, then roll each one in the cocoa powder, icing sugar or chocolate vermicelli to coat completely.

Arrange the truffles in petit four cases, and then chill in the refrigerator until required.

Remove from the fridge 30 minutes before serving.

    EASY PEASY Smiley smile

I used a Jamie Oliver recipe, which used cream... and instead of adding alcohol I bought Baileys cream... Yum Yum!

Really easy, I make the for xmas pressies and stuff all the time and would be loads cheaper than buying them I usually use this recipe /recipes/chocolate/amazing-diy-chocolate-truffles/ but actually construct them and coat them in crushed toasted almonds and they are lovely!! but you can use the basic recipe and do different flavours as well, I do a chili chocolate on by throwing some dried crushed chili into the cold cream and heating slowly so it infuses then pour over the chocolate (add the salt still as brings out the flavour but nothing else) and once shaped dust with cocoa powder, yummy!!

They are very easy - I made them last Christmas, added Baileys to some of them and dusted them with cocoa powder and coconut.

Just remember not to handle them too much else they melt and make a right mess!

Thanks everyone! Think I'll have a trial run next weekend. I'm wanting to use them as favours, but most of the recipes say remove from fridge 30 mins before serving...hmmm?

What I'd do for a truffle right now. Having eaten just 4 slices of toast in 3 days, I think my body has forgotten what it's like to have chocoate inside!

I like doing cookingy bits for people at Christmas who say they don't want anything, might give truffles a go, never tried them! I made mousse last year, it was so rich that even I couldn't have more than a tidgy bit off a teaspoon and my cat heaved at it when he sniffed it!!

Should be OK as long as they are not somewhere too warm as they will melt easily, Someone said they freeze OK so might be worth popping in freezer for a bit in the morning, not to freeze them completely but make them really cold so they take longer to melt!! I havent tried this myself tho so would be best to test it out b4 the big day!

I put mine in the freezer and just got them out on the morning i wanted to give them to people. Didn't affect the taste or how they looked at all and meant I could make them in advance as they don't last very long just in the fridge.

    Yum!
