Has anyone got any top tips for a Mauritius honeymoon?

laraluv42, 30 March, 2009 at 07:56 Posted on Planning 0 7

Just at the brochure stage at the mo & everything looks lovely.

Just wondering if anyone had been before & could give me some hints on nice hotels?

Thanks x

We went to Mauritius on honeymoon and I adored it (we did a 2 break stay with a safari in South Africa for 4 days before 11 days in Mauritius). We stayed at the Shandrani, which is gorgeous but its on the "other side" of the island to the majority of the fancy hotels - something we weren't worried about as its on Blue Bay which is a lovely Coral Reef and H loves diving, but that also means away from the main areas.

    I loved it!

We stayed at the Maritim Hotel in Turtle Bay a couple of years ago for a friends wedding, it was beautiful! Really lovely place.

It was featured on GMTV for a wedding a few months before we went (not the reason my friend picked there though).

Just had a look at the website, it looks amazing!! Do you mind me asking approx price it cost? We're looking at going for 11 days also. Did you find it easy to get to other parts of the island? I wouldn't mind visiting Port Louis etc.

I can't remember what it cost, but I know we booked it through Beachcombers. It cost us £45 (we were there in 2007) to hire a cab for the day to take us on a sightseeing tour of the island - was very easy to sort out, just tell the hotel and they do it for you! It was close to the airport, but there are only 6 or so flights a day so not an issue at all.

Hi there, im half mauritian and lots of my family are still there which means i get to visit alot- it's an amazing island! Lots of stunning hotels- just depends on your budget though as some are so expensive.

Def visit Port Louis and Grand Baie and an absolute must is a day trip to Ille aux cerfs- this tiny wee island with a golf course and a beach and nothing else really. Take a boat over and take a picnic- one of my favourite places in the world!

Remember their hottest months are around our winter (Nov-feb) but also get rainy season etc...

Thanks for the tips! We're going in July. Looking to spend about £4000. Hope this is do-able!

Should be, I think ours was £7k but that included SA too (and I think that was the more expensive part).
