Has anyone heard of this photographer

Four-Little-Monkeys, 19 February, 2010 at 18:44 Posted on Planning 0 16

I was wondering if anyone has heard of or using Ewa Labuda for their wedding photos. We have just been given what I think is a really good quote but wanted to see what everyone else had used them first before booking.

Thanks

Edited to add: They are based in Edinburgh but covers most of the UK.

*****This is based on no one on this forum having used them****

I hope you dont mind me asking what was the quote?

Good quotes dont mean that they are not very good, If they dont have a shop they dont need to charge as much but you might still get a really good photographer.

Have a look at their images and ask to see their last 2 weddings rather than the sample work. (taking in to account winter weddings are inside rather than summer being outside)

Do you get on with them, The best photographer in the world might not be the best if you cant stand their personality.

If you like their product and have seen enough compared to other local photographers then go with your instincts, if you think its the right choice then go for it, if you have a doubt then ask to see more work.

and obviously recommendations if you can find them.

I have been quoted £300 (normally £470) for bridal preparations civil ceremony (12.30pm) wedding breakfast ending at 6pm (we are getting married on Thurday 12th August and our evening party is Saturday 14th August).

    The package includes:

    Unlimited Photo's taken

    CD/DVD of all pictures

    Full copyright

40 x High Res Prints in photo album

I found them on Middlesbrough Gumtree by accident while looking for something completely different.

Have you seen the album and are happy with it?

It sounds to me like they are not full time photographers but again that doesnt mean that they are bad.

Also are the images on cd high res and edited

I have edited my original post as I have just realised they are based in Edinburgh but cover most of the UK.

We have family in Scotland so are going to make an appointment before booking to see their work etc.

Do they have back up equipment, insurance, experience, training? These are the kind of questions to ask them.

Ok distance wise it might cause a bigger risk value, im sure there is a photographer around middlesbrough or area which would offer similar for the same price, The travel time from their is aprox 3 hours which is around about 150 miles and so 40p per mile (fuel and car wear and tear) which is £120 there and back would mean that the total package isnt as good of value that first precieved.

Whens the date of the wedding?

just with asking what is your budget?

    Hi

As the photographer is already at another wedding on the saturday after us (we get married on Thursday 12th August 2010) at a venue in Darlington he isnt charging us for travel as he will already be here anyway.

Our budget is £750 for the photographer and we have had a number of differnt quotes both from local and national photographers but none that were available except this one would include the copyright to all photos aswell which is more important to me.

The price quoted isnt his normal price, he has a offer on at the moment and I have also negotiated a discount with him too if we decided to go ahead with the booking.

If you're happy with it, I see no problem, There are a lot of photographers offering special offers at the moment if the number of bookings is low.....

My only Guidance is to check that they have got the correct insurance etc if they do not do the job full time - Just to make sure you are covered should there be any problems.

    Glad you got sorted! x

Having found Ewa on the internet the same as you have and dealt with her during the build up to my son’s wedding I have no problem in recommending her for her approachable style and professionalism on the day as she was totally unintrusive and did a fantastic job.

She did the pictures for my son whether in old style and a more relaxed style and they were really good. We also found her prices very reasonable and as far as we are all concerned no fault could be found with her work – I could e-mail her about anything to do with the wedding and pictures and she was right back to me with her answer. Ewa is a very nice lady who takes wonderful wedding photographs!!!

My second son is getting married and he booked her already!

Hi FLM. Is it definately copyright that is being signed over to you? Many photographers will give reproduction rights, that is the right to have images printed from a disk they have supplied, very few though will hand over copyright. It is a regular misunderstanding. (Not implying that you haven't arranged copyright, although this is quite rare as it means that the photographer can never use those images on their website or for any promotional work like wedding fayres etc.)

To be honest £300 isn't a price that would allow a wedding photographer to sustain a business (maybe not even £470). Allowing for tax & ni contributions, buying the prints & album & getting to the wedding, there may be around £100 left to cover 8 hours work on the day and at least another 8 hours work post wedding, which would work out at around £6.80 'profit'.

Also, money has to be put aside for insurance(s) and the replacement of photographic equipment & computers (a professional camera & lens can cost well over £3,000 & everything has to have a spare!).

I'm well aware that there are suppliers who charge an extortionate amount for anything that has 'wedding' attached to the service (and I try to ensure that my prices are as reasonable & genuine as I can make them) & those of us without studio overheads to pay for can charge less than those with a studio but people also need to be careful about anything that seems a little too good to be true, as unfortunately there are usually associated drawbacks & problems.

    Andrew

If you are happy with the quality of the images the prints and the album then go fo it, but I'd definitley ask to see a sample.

I know I just couldn't possibly do it at that price because some of the albums I do cost ME that much to order! I guess what I'm trying to say is to get this price point a lot of corners have to be cut, if you happy with that no problem and cheap and cheerful is what some people are looking for and want, but obviously you can't expect top quality for that price.

I seen her advert too and her website looked really good. She seemed very recommended!

Probably because you're having your wedding on a thursday too she might be charging less, are you booking her quite last minute to your wedding? If so that could be another reason why she's giving you a good deal, especially with already being in your area anyway it probably works out well for her! x

    Thanks for all your replies.

This is actually an old post which I posted in Febuary when I started to look for a photographer. We have since booked someone else local who are also providing our wedding cars too.

I must admit that I hadn't noticed the posting dates. It was an interesting first post that re-ignited this thread.......
