Have reached a standstill!

watfordlass, 1 November, 2012 at 16:55 Posted on Planning 0 5

Hi. I'm getting married 31 August next year and am loving all the wedding preparation! We have been engaged a few months but only started plannnig the wedding at the beggining of September (after our enagagement party). So far the church, reception, photpgrapher, cars and mens wedding suits have been booked (subject to the men's measurements next year). Save the date cards have been ordered, just waiting for those.

I'm not looking to view any wedding dresses until after Christmas but would really appreciate some advice as to what to tackle next. I've been so occupied with sorting eveything out so far I am feeling a bit deflated and not really sure where to go from here.

Many thanks,

Watford Lass

I would wait until you have your dress sorted. Most things fall into place once you've chosen the gown.....style for bridesmaids, cake, flowers and invitations all come from the style of your dress.

Hello and welcome! Your dress is definitely the next thing to get, as they can sometimes take 6 months to arrive. I was told that July/August are (obviously) a busy time for dress shops, so you need to factor in about a month for fittings and adjustments too. After your dress, I would start thinking about flowers. Also your rings, because they might take a few months to arrive (depending on what you're having). Do you have a DJ or band with your reception?

Now that you've booked the big stuff, you get to do the fun stuff! All the DIY things and pretty little extras! I'm getting married at the beginning of August, and I've only got my venue, dress, TOG and VOG so far! I need to get my arse into gear!

Wdding insurance. Just in case.... (if you don't have it, you'll need it, if you do you won't)

And dress, everything feels better when you've sorted your dress.

If you are considering live music it might be worth looking into this sooner rather than later. There was a string quartet we wanted to book back in August (so pretty much eaxctly one year to go) and they were already booked! Same for bands.

Thank for your input. I am having a dj who has been booked already to entertainment sorted. Guess it's time to bite the bullett and start dieting so I can go look at dresses! Thanks again x

Yes go for it! You might find you're a bit tight for time if you don't start looking till Jan. You could at least try various styles etc to start narrowing it down.

The other thing I did quite early on was find bridesmaids dresses - although some prefer to wait until after getting their own dress. Reason was I wanted full length ones from the high st (not bridal store prices...) so I knew choice would be limited. So basically I felt I needed to get dresses first, and then choose the colour scheme - rather than the other way round. And it's useful to get the colour scheme in place so you can start on invites, decor etc!

Do you want a videographer? They would probably be worth booking early on too. And have you booked a registrar?
