Have you made any compromises?

Have you made any compromises for you wedding day with regards to the venue?

We decided we wanted a church wedding as we both go to church anyhow so that was decided early on however there is a venue in Somerset that still allows you to get married in a church and its a wonderful setting however - its so far away that many people would struggle to come along (3hrs travelling)

So we've made the decision to have a local wedding in our church and a local reception so that everyone can attend.

We've looked at posh local recpetions but because there are few and far between they are pretty expensive!

Sometimes I wish we'd gone for a posher place far away but then people that I really want there wouldnt be able to attend - (my nan is in her 80's and could never travel that far) - and then I think whats the point of having a great venue if you cant appreciate it due to your family etc not being there.

Even though I know all the reasons are the right reasons I still find myself hankering after orchardleigh house as its SO beautiful.

Just wondering if anyone else has been in a similar situation?

Yes, me! Our compromise is similar - we're having the reception in the church hall after the church ceremony.

No transport costs that way. I do think it's a shame it's not 'grand' but we're not grand people, and we'll nip out for half an hour to have our pics taken at the Royal Crescent so we get that instead.

As for distance, well my family will be coming from 2 1/2 hours away, his will be coming from 3 hours away. But that's just because our families live at opposite ends of the country (Mine: SW, his: NE).

I haven't made any compromises - in fact - I got a much better venue than I ever imagined!!

With 2 of our best mates getting married last year we saw how much can be spent on a wedding and decided there as no way we would a) want to spend that kind of money and b) be able to, so we always thought of having a bit more of a low key afair (which I thought was really great as it's so different to what everyone does now). I'd found a lovcely pub near us (about a 30 min drive) and they offered the whole pub to you. I'd also found a lovely venue for the wedding (Town Hall) and we were going to have a cheap but classy wedding.

However, after attending a wedding reception at our venue last year - and the fact that D loves all things Brunel - we looked into it and D decided that he would rather spend a bit more money and have it all there. It'sjust over an hours drive from where we live but as neither of us are from round here - all our fmily had to travel anyway so we had the luxury of not being tied to a location.

I'm so happy with my venue - never dreamed i'd be getting married somewhere as special!! And it was suprisngly cheap compared to current "traditional" wedding places.
