Have you met 'proper' friends on hitched?

Mrs Magic, 2 April, 2008 at 17:02 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 160

Friends you call on in a crisis, who you would do anything for and will be in your life for a long time sort of friends

I have and I really count myself lucky. While I was slicing potatoes before (?) I was trying to think how many hitchers I have met, I lost count but I'm guessing around 30-40 and more to add on a few weeks! Quite of these folks have really become close friends and a small group who I would count as my best friends (well one of them brought me to hitched and the others I met here.) Because of my health and the fact I've never worked, not really able for night school etc, I've not met many friends 'in real life' so I'm very thankful for my weirdie friends!

I have little groups of friends in my head; My really close friends, Edinburgh, North West, London, Flickr, good old 'direct from hitched' friends and people I really want to meet. There is some crossing over, obviously. ? I really dread to think what my life would be like without this place.

So, what about you?

I think I have made some good friends, but I am struggling to think of anyone, metonhitched or otherwise, who I would turn to in a crisis.

I've made lots of friends on hitched (you included?) But, there is one certain hitcher who I really believe i wouldn't be here now if it wasn't for her on line and real life care, love and friendship. I owe her so much. I've turned to her in so many a crisis, and not once has she let me down.?

There are two who I would count as good friends and lots who could be if we ever got round to meeting up IRL. One Hitcher I get on with so well that we reckon (if we could persuade our husbands) that we could do joint holidays as families. Like all my friends from uni etc, I can sometimes go weeks or even months without chatting or seeing them, but that doesn't mean they aren't important to me.

There are also a few other hitchers who I know in "real life" who helped me out with visits a couple of years ago. That meant a lot. And the hitchers I've met at hitched meets who I feel I can "talk to" online

Well I talk about you lot to Mr Toosh enough, to call you all friends, but infact I have only ever met one hitcher, who was the sweetest, (non norfolk )person I have ever met, the fact she let me loose on her beautiful hair was amazing.?

I doubt I will ever meet anymore hitchers as I am the only one in this lonely part of the world.☹️

    No.

I think it's lovely you have though. I've met one hitcher I think, who is lovely ? and I think it would be lovely to make really good friends here as I work in a very small place, my RL friends don't live nearby etc.

I am however conscious of looking like a bit of a sad loner here thoughid="size1"> [:I]?.

Rache - I know some folk on hitched think you can't be good friends with someone you haven't met but there is one person who I know will be in my life for a very long time to come. It's only down to health and geographic that we haven't met yet. We can go weeks without speaking yet as soon as we are on the phone, it's like we've known each other forever.

How lovely that you could holiday with a hitcher as a family! We're spending a week with a hitcher and her husband in August and I can't wait. ?

Thanks for all your replies, I love reading threads like these.

? to everyone who feels they don't have anyone to turn to.

No - don't think I'm a regular enough poster to have! Although would like to.

I have to admit that I have seen more genuine acts of sheer kindness on here than I have anywhere else - so making some friends here would be lovely.

Sorry that got a bit mushy?

    Thanks Mrs M ?

I think it's lovely so many hitchers are close IRL too though I think the trolling/idea that anyone can be behind an ID etc can be scary especially for some which is off-putting for tying RL things with here IYSWIM

I have indeed - I have a small circle of incredibly close friends, all of whom I've met through Hitched. They know who they are because I tell them I love them when I'm drunk. ?

I've met one or two hitchers, although I seem to keep missing the meets for one thing and another. I do feel there are a number on here that I can share my problems with if I needed someone to listen and talk to. I do however have lots of very good friends from other forums and chatrooms who are now some of my closest friends and a very gorgeous husband too!

I haven't made any close friends through Hitched, but the Hitchers I have met (Madge included obviously) have, without exception, been lovely and interesting people. I've not sure I've found the right wording here, but what I've liked about meeting Hitchers is the variety - people with whom I probably wouldn't cross paths with otherwise.

I'm slightly peeved that the Bristol crowd have just nicked my newly acquired lunch date buddy, but I'm sure I'll get over it.?

Definitely. I'm sad that some of my favourite people live too far away to see all that often.
