Having a bit of a dress wobble [:S]

Stupidgirl45, 30 November, 2008 at 20:33 Posted on Planning 0 17

Okay so i had a bit of a wobble about my dress when we were in Westfield shopping centre today (maybe it was just the millions of people frantically Xmas shopping....!)

Anyway I have been worrying for a bit that my dress makes me look fat - speshly when my dad said (1st comment on it....) oh darling thats nice, but it looks a bit tight but are you going to lose weight. Okay, I'm a size 10 and 5"8 so not something I'd considered doing....(!) thanks dad.

Then today I was trying on black dresses in advance of finding some for my BMs (my sis/CBM is same size/colouring...) and showed them to H2B - one of which had a little pencil skirt and he said he didn't think it suited me. So I had a bit of a freak and rang my mum who said no, honestly my dress is lovely etc etc no I'm not fat.

Anyway I've calmed down a bit now and I totally love my dress but does anyone else get the wobbles about how they're going to look on the day? I know I'm the only person putting pressure on me to look *perfect* but it's hard not to, its my wedding day.....

Anyway here is a link to me in my dress - reassurance please that it's going to be okay and I am MASSIVELY overreacting....

http://www.photobox.co.uk/my/photo?album_id=74434857&photo_id=1782360470

Sorry just had to have a bit of a rant - I know I'll look fine but you know what it's like....

xx

Your dress is lovely and id kill for your size 10 figure.. the link isnt working but i recall your dress and Id only wonder if I can a)walk in it and b) sit down in it and c) go to the lav!!!

Your dad prolly thinks that wedding dresses should be alll flouncy and princess shape and pencil skirts look best on women with small waists and curvaceous hips and i'm guessing you dont have the curvy hips aka Monroe stylee/mens retro fantasy... lol

    if that makes sense.. xx

Babe, honestly you look so fab in your dress... it makes me v jealous that I couldn't wear such a stylish dress... I'm still having flashbacks from yesterday and seeing the back fat rolls which seriously need attending to before next October... if only there wasn't the mince pie bake off tomorrow...

Seriously, the dress is fab, you look great in it and what on earth do men know about such things.... listen to your mum!

    B xx

I am going to be completely honest having looked at the picture, but obviously feel free to ignore what I say!! I would rather people said what they thought then let me wear a dress which I wasn't 100% about.

The fabric of the dress does seem to look a bit puckered across your stomach area, which makes it look like it is a little tight. I think that that particular fabric does have a tendency to do that, and it probably is not actually tight at all.

Is the dress in the picture your actual dress? If you are concerned about it there are probably a few things you can do. Either get it let out a tiny bit, or is it is a lace up, maybe not tie it so tightly?

I hope none of this sounds too harsh. I do think the shape and colour of the dress really suit you, and I'm sure you will look gorgeous on your big day. If you are still worried, I'm sure your photographer will be able to get flattering angles in any case.

Hey duckface - its the sample not my actual dress so yes, I'm hoping they let it out a bit too!! I didn't expect the sample to fit perfectly but i don't want it to look too tight. Also the photo makes it look worse than it is because its satin and reflects the light like that...

Thanks for all your comments guys, I feel bit better!

Do know, i' sure a sillyy - i've just remember she tucked one of those big padded things down the back of the dress to make it fit better....

so THAT's why it looks too tight!!!!

Dohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh I feel like a total dim wit now.

you know what it's like when you get something in your head!!

It's going to be ok, you are MASSIVELY overreacting..... (? just doing as i'm told....)

honestly, it looks fine. kind of agree with what duckface said, but as you have said yourself, it was the sample, and she shoved something down the back of it to make it fit better - yours will be totally fitted to you and be perfect.

I was going to ask the same questions as duck face (i.e is that YOUR dress or the sample). If it's the sample then I would say you have nothing to worry about, your dress will have been ordered in the best size for you and yes having a sponge pushed down your back will cause the satin to pucker like that.

I would say wait until your dress arrives and you get to try it on, if you still feel wobbly then have a good think but don't get wobbly over a photograph of you in the shop sample X

Thanks for all you're replies - sorry I think it was just the stress of shopping and I am feeling a bit ☹️ at the minute about myself - silly really.

I am going to try it on again before Xmas and I will ask about it being let out when it's altered - and I remember them talking about it anyway.

I just tend to hear "you're fat" when something is too tight not, "it's just too tight"....

You already look fantastic in the sample dress (you have such a flat stomach!) and that style really suits you. Your own dress will fit completely differently as well - the sample has been tried on and pulled around and you had a sponge down your back! Your own dress will be fitted to match you perfectly.

If it helps I had so many wobbles about my dress it was ridiculous. Even the day before the wedding, when I was trying it on after it had been taken in for the final time, I spent about an hour crying because I didn't feel beautiful in it (I had lost even more weight - not on purpose - so it was too big, but I still felt like my stomach was huge in it.) On the day, I felt absolutely fantastic, didn't worry about my stomach at all and all everyone kept telling me was how tiny I looked in it and what a perfect dress it was. They'll do the same to you!

Totally agree with what others have said re the sample. Sorry if I sounded harsh before, but I would rather be truthful and help you make an informed decision.

In one shop I went into, when I was trying on dresses, the lady said to me that wearing the sample was the worst you could ever look in that particular dress (because it's not the right size, been tried on so many times etc). So given that the sample looks ok, it seems like you will look gorgeous in your actual dress.

Hi Sarah/Duckface :-) - no you;re totally right I know it's just because its the sample etc that's why its pulling! Having said that I did go to the gym tonight!!! Thanks for being honest - I'd rather know than not.

Everyone else - thank you for your lovely comments ?
