Having a bit of a stress

lauren700, 28 April, 2011 at 10:25 Posted on Planning 0 3

So.... from the outset H2B was adamant that we were doing the wedding 'on a budget' that isnt a small budget but around £10k was his limit. So ive done my very best to source things cheaper saved £1000 on my dress getting it from china, have got shoes from newlook even though I always had my heart set on Jimmy Choos or Louboutins, went with cars from his Dad's friend even though I would have liked different ones and i could go on and on.

Now he's decided to go back on other decisions like just providing bacon sarnies and instead wants a buffet. Rather than just having cava or prosecco wants expensive champagne. I'm going out of my mind, he doesnt seem to understand that I've sacrificed things that I wanted not so that we can have expensive bl))dy champagne.

I guess this was just a moan really - sorry.

Have you both been involved in choosing the things for your wedding? Maybe he hasnt realised what you have cut back on! Talk to him about it he will love you even more for making sacrifices. Its good to have a moan x

Tell him if he is having champers then you are having choos!

Its all about give and take with the budget but you do need to let him know your savings so far and your real preferences.

    It's a tough one.

I think quite often people don't realise how much a wedding will cost and, generally speaking, I think men tend to be far more removed from the reality of wedding costs, particularly at the outset.

Do you have some sort of written budget? Might be a good time to have a frank discussion about where the money is coming from, where it is going and what is important to both of you. Can you afford to stash away a bit of cash each month just for you? If you can, do it and spend your savings pot on a pair of shoes you really want. (Louboutins look fabulous with that flash of red but I find the Choos comfier - you don't want to spend all that cash and then have to remove them after half an hour! What size are you?)

We had a sort of split budget... most of it was joint - ceremony, venue etc. but our outfits were our own to arrange and save for.

I didn't think it fair to him that he had a £120 suit and £30 shoes while I had a £700 dress and 2 pairs of shoes!!! Plus accessories, hair, make-up, nails etc.

    It worked for us.
