Having friends over after school

KB3, 2 October, 2008 at 15:51 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 9

Silly question but when your child has a friend over for a few hours after school, do you feed them? We normally have kids stay the night so they'll eat with us at 8pm-ish. However youngest SD is having a friend round tomorrow night and she is being picked up at 7pm. Should MrKB feed her? He didn't think to ask the mother.

I normally feed any kids that come home with my little one. I feed my little one about 4.30-5.00.

Really? Gosh ours don't eat until I get in from work which is gone 7pm. Sometimes I do the cooking. The have some fruit after school and never tell us they are starving or anything. He better buy some pizza's or something in that case ?

I would imagine other parents would expect child to be fed if they are there until 7pm. I'd imagine most children eat between 5-6pm, I guess it's just what yours are used to and if they are ok with it then that's fine!

That's what I'm thinking. I just didn't want him to feed her and then her mum has cooked her something at home.

Maybe they could make pizza, make it a bit more fun.

Yep, I always feed kids when they're here. Making pizza is great fun with them and it means that they get the toppings they like. Always have pasta or something else in reserve in case you get 'but I don't like pizza'!

Usually give them a snack & a drink when we first get home from school, let them play and then try to get dinner for around 5.30pm.

They won't get home from school until 4.30pm. The traffic is mental & they have to get older sister from her school. So I think if he can get dinner ready for 6pm they'll be OK.

I suppose it's what you're used to, but in answer to what would I do, then YES, I would definitely feed them.

My children are 4 and 8 and eat around 5pm each night, unless they're at after school club, in which case they had a snack there, and eat their tea when we get home at 6.15pm.

When we have other children home after school they always have tea around 5.00pm, and if I picked up my kids from another mum's house at 7.00pm and they hadn't been fed I'd be horrified ?, but I doubt you'd get away without feeding them anyway because they would ask when tea was!

Thanks CJB, I really don't want the poor girl to starve nor her mother think my husband is a wally for not feeding the kids, so he's decided to do pizza, garlic bread and some salad. There is no point them making pizza as they won't have much time to play, and according to SD they have some vey important gossiping to do ?

    Hi

Yes, if someone was staying until 7pm I would feed them as the kids tend to eat about 5.30 on school days (later at the weekends when they eat with us).

Actually, my son would be chewing his own foot if he had to wait until 7 to eat!!

We always feed them, yes. We have dinner around 6pm usually and it's quite nice to sit around the table together and get to know the friends (although J often doesn't think so ?).
