Having my first real melt down - I'm not a girly girl

sophamie, 13 February, 2013 at 23:55 Posted on Planning 0 6

So it's 87 days until my wedding according to my Hitched countdown timer, and I'm having my first real melt down!

I'm not a girly girl in the slightest and am panicking about what to do with my hair (it's just above shoulder length, straight, and at the moment a very dark red after dying it so many times (hoping to go lighter before the wedding). No idea whether I want a veil or a tiara or both, or where to even start looking for one (I live in Berkshire, but don't really have any family or friends down this way to go looking with), no idea what to do about make up as I can't do my own make up very well and can't afford to get a MUA in on the day.

I've been in tears tonight cos my H2B told me I should probably start sorting this stuff soon as we don't have much free time between now and the wedding (we've got 4 free weekends at the moment, and one of those will be taken up with dress fittings)

I just don't know what to do about any of it! Smiley sad Sorry I'm being pathetic!

Nooo don't worry, for MU, could you ask a friend to do it on the day? I think re: veil or tiara, you'd just have to go into bridal shops and try random stuff on, and you'll know once you actually see if on yourself, like with venues when people say they fall in love with it when they see it, you'll just know!

Can you go into a department store, like some of the other girls suggested on other posts, some will do a free sample trial for you if you tell them your getting married and want a consultation. You might pick up some tips (at worse you will get some free samples)!

I agree try on a couple of veils/tiaras and see how you feel with them on.

You could also try YouTube for tips on hair styling/make up. Just keep practicing each night or simply go as you are your H2B asked that you to be his wife!

For make up - why not try one of the make-up counters or shops e.g. Mac. They can give you a little lesson then you buy the products and can do it yourself on the day. Same for hair, you could get some advice from a salon next time you go to get your hair done, then on the day get a friend to help recreate the style.

    Hi,

Why don't you order veils/ tiaras online from somewhere like Debenhams or BHS so that thet're not too pricey, but also you can try it on at home then return it if it's no good? Even if the veil isn't quite right once you know you want one you can look for one on preloved or ebay.

In terms of make up, go to a make up counter (ideally not a Saturday) and explain the situation and I am sure they will help you out with some tips and advice Smiley smile

Oh, God. I can see this being me in a few months' time!

All I can do is echo the advice of the posters above; book a make up lesson, take along someone vaguely competent with make-up (I'm dragging my little sister along!) then buy the products and get them to do it for you on the day.

Try haggling with hairdressers too. I've not even started booking appointments yet, but my hair is a really short bob, so I'm not going to fork out hundreds of pounds as I'm not having it up or anything, and it's naturally curly. If your hair is shoulder length, you shouldn't have to pay as much. If you're not a 'girly girl' (as I am not) then it might be a good idea to get someone to do your hair for you. I wouldn't know where to start; it's all I can be a*sed to do to wash it and let it dry naturally each day! ?

I don't think you have to do anything OTT. Some brides completely overhaul their image for their wedding day. I personally think you should aim to look 100% like you, but on your best day! ?

This is exactly what l think and what l will be doing!

I am sure some of the make up counters will have some great tips about what suits you and what goes together. Like someone else suggested could one of your bridesmaids help you with your hair and make up?

Don't panic. The first thing to do would be to look at your dress and decide if a veil would suit it? which type? Then would you like to wear it? After you know that, you can consider tiaras/flowers etc for hair. Once you know those, hair will need to be a certain way I guess to accommodate those things. If you flash your dress, I bet lots of hitchers here will be able to suggest veils/hairstyles/accessories to go with it.
