Having trouble finding alternative wedding stationary

Clionaq, 25 September, 2013 at 10:59 Posted on Planning 0 15

Hi everyone, I don't know if I'm alone with this problem or if there are others out there, but I'm looking for wedding invitations that are more alternative than the normal fancy (girly!) type that seems to be flooding the market! I'm a professional photographer, and really arty and into more edgy 'out there' kind of design. Id like my invitations to reflect this. All I can find online seems to be the same, (boring and frilly!) there's nothing different or alternative as far as I can see. Is anyone else having the same problem?? If so have you come up with any solutions or have you found any company out there doing more edgy design? I am seriously pressed for time with my job, otherwise I'd design and make them myself!! Any advice or suggestions would be greatly appreciated thanks!

We've got a friend designing ours and then we'll have them printed at Vistaprint (we had our STDs printed through them and they ended up looking pretty awesome). Do you have any talented friends? Sounds like you might be able to team up with someone and do something photography based perhaps? Good luck!

We are using Ditsy Chic because we wanted to get away from traditional invites. Second the Etsy idea too, some real gems on there!

    Hiya

I'd love to have a chat with you about your stationery. As well as the standard card type designs, I also work with acrylic and wood. There are lot's of funky things that can be done so I'm sure we can come up with something that fits you and your personality perfectly!

    You can email me at

We're using The Card Gallery, they've got some really great designs on their site but they do bespoke designs too.

Thanks a million for the replies girls! I love the photographic film, and i will definitely look into etsy too. Do many people actually buy from etsy without meeting the designer or seeing the stationary first? Seems a bit risky? But maybe they post you a sample before you pay in full... Have many of you done this? Thanks again!

Most designers on Etsy will send you a sample of their design - usually for a small fee/postage. It'll probably just be a generic sample (not to your specs) but it'll give you an idea of look/quality

This is what ours did. I paid for one sample and then when I was happy they made the rest up for me.

We used vistaprint too - you can do your own design and get them to do all the fiddly bits. worked out brilliantly and very cheap!

Considering your photography background, how about making save the dates from 35mm film, I literally just started making mine (they're not save the dates but I took the idea from save the dates). here's the original source:

Sorry just seen jo jo's post! I got my empty film cannisters pretty cheaply, I'm semi collecting but have a guy I'm bulk buying from as well (cos I need 300). They come with the film lead prepared for you, so you can easily sellotape on your save the date/wedding invitation. I got the labels from label planet (wrong bliddy size of course!) for very cheap, printed it for 25p per 25 labels. So yeah all in all it's actually not too expensive! If you want more info just drop me an email and I'll send you the links for where I bought everything!
