Flowmojo, 1 October, 2013 at 11:48 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 8

Apart from Popping pills or drinking muchos water, how do you get rid of them? I have what feels like a thumping head for the best part of two days now, its not developed into a migraine which I feared it might . tablets dont seem to want to shift..i thought a good nights sleep last night may help but alas its still kicking around!

Due to being up the duffer and not wanting to take any form of painkiller I use ice-cold flannels to shift mine... Hope it shifts soon for you x

I wash my hair by bending over the bath and using the shower attachment. The combination of massage and increased bloodflow to the head often shifts my headaches.

Are you grinding your teeth at night? My H was and it was causing migranes.

Also, I was suffering from them almostn daily a couple of years ago and went to a physio; I was carrying a lot of tension in my neck, for which I was given excercises. They've gone now. Worth a try? It may be that you're straining when you'r carrying little on around.

    Totally this ^^^^

I went for physio when the hoppers were small and it turned out to be a mixture of posture, tension and stress. One tip I still use is to put a tea towel round your neck, hold onto the two corners, gently pull forward while you tilt your chin onto your chest but keep your mouth slightly open while you do it. Stretches all your neck muscles and helps reduce tension.

failing that, I open a bottle of Pinot.

I've found that giving myself a little head massage and then trying to have a little lie down so I can shut my eyes helps. Cold compress is good too.

I suffer terribly when I get a headache and get literally sick so try as many things as poss to make them go away!

I have been suffering with migraines for a couple of years now and having had no joy from the GP did some reading and found the National Migraine Centre. It was set up by a neuro consultant to try and bridge a gap not catered for in the NHS currently. He basically asks for GP volunteers who dedicate one day a week to the clinic and he trains them. I was shocked to discover that the topic of headaches/migraines only constitutes approximately 4 hours of a GP's training. I had an hour appointment there and they were fantastic.

I will summarise the main points which I hope will help you too.

Try and maintain a fairly even sugar level throughout the day, peaks and troughs are a trigger.

Eat within an hour of waking.

Don't take over the counter remedies, migraleve etc they are not effective. Apparently the digestive functions shut down during a migraine so nothing will be absorbed. The best thing is dispersible aspirin together with something like motilium which encourages this function.

Dont overmedicate. I was popping headache tablets all the time. this can cause headaches.

    Watch caffeine intake.

Good quality sleep is essential, this is normally the most significant trigger.

Will finish this later, late for work!

When I was down-regulating I had the most awful, constant headache. It was like my head was in a vice. Paracetamol did next to nothing but lying still with a cold flannel on my head really helped.

I think knowing it would only last those couple of weeks also helped!
