Hello there,

I've only posted 2 posts so far but I wanted to introduce myself properly! We have just booked our wedding for 11th October 2014 and am so excited! Only 710 days to go!! Any tips on keeping costs down would be massively appreciated! Am looking forward to contributing a bit more to the forums!

Lindsey

    Welcome and congrats!

We cut down on costs by make all stationery ourselves, cutting down on flowers (no floral centrepieces) and paying corkage to the venue for our wine and champagne instead of paying their prices.

My mam also made my wedding cake and our chocolate truffle favours.

Congratulations on booking your date and welcome to Hitched! Where are you getting married? I think it's a case of working out your priorities are and seeing where you are happy to cut back. Like Kharv we are planning to make our own stationery. Some things like photographer I thought were not worth scrimping on, so have spent more on that. Other things, like our centrepieces which are bothering me more at the moment, because I really like tall floral displays but I'm finding it hard to justify the money for something like that, which I guess is quite a small detail of the day....x

Hi there Lindsey (thats my name too) and congratulations. I don't post often and I'm more of a lurker :/ really should post more.

i can't really help with keeping costs down apart from maybe sourcing cheaper alternatives on the Internet e.g my shoes only cost £1 on eBay.

But you'll become more savvy as the months go on.

Wow £1 shoes! I love ebay!!!! We're getting getting married at Nostell Priory near Wakefield - they have a beautiful grade 1 listed church in the grounds and then its a 200 yards walk to the reception venue. http://www.dine-services.com/venue/nostell_priory_weddings/gallery

    Hi!

    I'm also a 2014 bride... 28th March 2014.

As we have a good amount of time I'm just looking round for bargains. I bought my dress at a sample sale so got it for half the price! Maybe you could do the same kind of thing and whilst there is time just have a nosey at sales.

    Hi! Congrats and welcome!

I'm saving money by wearing heels I've already got (i know I won't wear white ones again) so they're also doubling as my old and blue - and I also know they're comfy and I can dance all night in them!

Don't forget about the talents of your friends and family - you'll be surprised how much they'll want to help - my great aunt is making the cake and a friend who works at a printers is doing all our stationary for us!
