Hello! Budget question...

Lady_Witch, 4 January, 2013 at 15:51 Posted on Planning 0 20

Hi folks!

I got engaged on NYE so am at the very beginning of my journey... haven't even set a date yet but I'm so keen to get planning things I figured I'd sign up here and get chatting to people who're going through it too Smiley smile

So, HI!

While I'm here, just curious as to what peoples rough budgets are? We're not wanting anything big or fancy, but I have absolutely no idea how much a wedding generally costs?!

Thanks

LW

That's a very "How long is a piece of string?" question and will depend on whether people include dresses, honeymoons, how many people? how much food?

We had 58 people all day. Our wedding, including honeymoon and dress was around £20k.

ETA: after a rethink (read: ask Boy), we were actually closer to £24k. I kept really good records early on in planning but that all went to pot closer to the day!

Yep, really is a difficult question to answer as you can spend as much or as little as you like really!

Hello and welcome along and of course congratulations!

The budget question is a tough one, we started out by looking at how much we could/were willing to save each month and at how many people we would like and what kind of day we would like, i.e how much food we want to provide and in what kind of style.

We googled a lot of suppliers for ideas on prices of different things, made phone calls and looked at 'packages' to get a rough idea.

We seem to be on track so far...Good luck!

    ETA-

We are on track for saving about 10k including 3k of which for Honeymoon. However our 10k does not include Flowers, Cake, Transport or Music as our parents have kindly taken care of those.

Oh and numbers wise- about 45 day and 110 evening.

    Hello and welcome ?

Such a hard question to answer because it depends on how much you want to spend on things and how easy it is to save.

It depends what you are after. We are having 30 people and our budget is £2.5k but could stretch to £3k

It can cost as much or as little as you can afford.

I'd say work out what you can afford to save/pay for and then work from there.

Like everyone else has said how long is a piece of string, what kind and when you want your wedding.

Ours has spiraled to 14k ... its easily done but that doesn't include the honey moon.

Ours was ~£13-14K without the honeymoon. We saved on some areas like photography but spent a lot more on others, mainly the reception/food. 75 day guests, about 95 in the evening.

Ours started at £3,500, then increased to £4k because we found a bit extra and got a bit for xmas. We're having 50 day (plus 8 babies for free, lol) and 20-30 more for evening.

Wow, thanks for all the replies guys!

I must admit, I'm now even more worried about budgets Smiley tongue As far as I'm concerned if I had 10k+ spare it would go down as a deposit on a house which will last a lot longer than a single day... but, to get the kinda day I'm imagining would probably cost somewhere in the region of 15k... think I'll have to go back to the drawing board and work out what is truly essential for us and what can be scrapped...

Either way, a lot of planning ahead and plenty of time to do it in (currently... until we set a date, then it'll be Panic Stations!)

We set our date for ten months after we got engaged, and worked out we could save 500 a month. No parental contribution or anything so our budget is 5k for 50 guests, 70 evening.

I ahve been the Bridezilla of shopping around. Our budget is £6K which is slowly creeping up to £6.5K but we have just bought our first house and we have a toddler so for us even this is steep.

We have sacrificed a few things, I'm sharing a car with my bridesmaids to the church instead of 2 cars, Suits are being hired and all wedding stationary/ centrepeices/ bunting is being handmade by me and my 3 bridesmaids.

Its surprising what is out there for lower costs, I dreamed of a wedding in a castle, and what I have cannot get further from a castle, its more like a cottage but fits in so well and costs 10% of the cost of the castle.

We are getting married on a Friday too, which we found saved around 15% overall on somethings.

Our budget is for 40 for the day and 100 people at night but not including our honeymoon.

Ours is £20k, for a Friday in October, 80 day guests and 130 odd or the evening. That's excludes dress and honeymoon though.

We're fortunate that my parents are giving us half of that, and OHs parents will pay for the honeymoon. We're contributing the rest.

We are having about 80 guests in the day and another 30 at night. We will have been saving from this January until August and will have about £9k saved by then which will all be spent on wedding and honeymoon and includes expected financial gifts to help towards the cost from family. In addition we have got our venue, photography and cake for free, plus catering is being paid for by someone else. So in total the stuff we will be getting for free will be worth about £6k (we've been wry lucky£. With free stuff it'll be about a £15k wedding.
