Hello campers

Can anyone recommend a camping stove. Price not really an issue but it will only be used for breakfast for two people so doubt something massive is necessary. I was thinking something like this https://www.campingaz.com/p-23537-camping-duo-grill-cv.aspx but am pretty clueless.

TIA

We've got this one but haven't used it yet so can't tell you if it's good or bad. We'll be taking it camping starting 26th July so if you don't need to buy one until after the beginning of August I can do you a stove report if you like? ?

Jetboil is probably still the coolest cooking system on the planet. Sounds like the Red Arrows, faster than an F-111 through downtown Tripoli.

For all round "do the job" -ness and a lifetime of service though, the good old Trangia is hard to beat. Zero (count them) working parts, and it works better in cruddy weather. I'd suggest buying a second fry-pan, they make good plates.

We've got the Camping Chef that The Beast linked to. It's a good stove, but we used it for family cooking, so you might be able to get away with a smaller one if you are just cooking for one or two. Plus it takes up quite a bit of space if that is going to be an issue.

We've got the one The Beast linked to too. It's alright except that my H got a really big gas bottle to go with it which is a pain. We tend to camp with another couple so it was for 4 people.

Depending what you want to cook something like this might work http://www.gooutdoors.co.uk/camping-equipment/cooking/kingfisher-portable-gas-stove/HEROACABOLSTOVE

We have a really old one of these https://www.campingaz.com/p-23678-single-burner.aspx and I can do a whole meal on it, e.g veg curry and rice. You don't need anything more than that IMHO.

We've got the Gelert version of the one The Beast posted, but have used that one too. The Campingaz one was better.

Go outdoors have the Campingaz one at £34.99 at the minute. Don't forget your regulator, hose and spanner.

We have a ridiculous Coleman affair that runs on unleaded petrol (really).

I is pretty good, but unless you like your kitchen to smell like a petrol station when your H overfills it because there's no way of seeing how much is in the tank, avoid.

Unless you're in to gourmet 3 course breakfasts, you don't need 2 rings, one will be fine. We've always cooked breakfast and dinner for 2 on a single ring. We've got a very old version of this which is fab. The advantage over one that sits directly on top of the gas bottle is that it doesn't matter if the ground is rocky or uneven. It also folds up tiny.

If you do go for one that takes the small gas canisters, try your local hardware store, H went in looking for a gas canister and all they had was a butane/propane mix used by plumbers? for welding or such like. The man in the shop said it would do the job so he bought it to try. It goes like a rocket and is a fraction of the cost of one you would buy in a camping store, definately reccomend, you couldn't use it with a burner that sits on top thought because it is a long thin bottle, bit like an aerosol deoderant type thing.

Didn't think about the uneven ground thing, thanks. Thought two burners might be good if I want tea and a bacon sarnie at roughly the same time though, no?

Thanks for help people Smiley smile

If you want a drink and bacon sarnies then you boil the kettle first and get an insulated cup, then by the time your bacon is ready you're able to drink the tea as it's cooled enough!

I d second nicks suggestions of a jetboil. they can boil water for 4 cups of tea in less than 2 minutes. but get the plastic stand for it otherwise its pretty unstable unless on firm flat ground. to save on having to wash a frying pan, fry your bacon at home then when its cold, put it in a ziplock bag after squeezing the air out. then in the morning, fill your jetboil cup with water, plonk in your ziplock bag and heat it up until it boils. hey presto, boiling water and hot bacon (its actually pretty good though i know sounds a bit grim). save the washing up. a word of warning doing this as your water comes to the boil watch it closely as when it hits boiling point, with the bag in it it will bubble up like a mother*****. never place the cup lid on firmly, just rest it on top. oh, and when you turn it on, press the igniter immediately, do not wait else you ll get a purple ball of flame.

We have this one http://www.campingaz.com/p-23280-camp-bistro.aspx i love it as it packs away nice and flat and not too heavy. I always like to keep it simple as we don't have a car so everything is carried or packed on the pram!
