Hello from me

Hiya, I've just joined as my bf (now fiancé!) proposed to me on christmas morning (ring was hidden in a cracker- pretty impressive for someone I moan about lacking in romance!)

Anyway, I'm sure there will be quite a few newbies here after christmas/new year proposals but thought I would do a little introduction.

We think we will look at planning for 2014 wedding, currently unsure about a summer or autumn wedding (places are SO much cheaper from October and its not as if we can rely on a beautiful summers day in Britain!!)

lots of decisions to make over the coming months and I'm sure I will be asking lots of questions!!

    I am also rather new and had a few ideas down on paper which are being added to, developed and changed after talking to those here.

    Similarly my h2b and myself can't agree a date either but like you have pointed out it is likely to be an out of the season wedding due to costs.

    I have started the search for reception venue already... Finding a local ish venue that we can hire for a buffet is proving difficult already (most places seem to insist on a sit down meal)

    Hello, Congratulations and welcome. I share your story as a newbie as my bf now fiance also proposed to me on christmas morning, hidden in a christmas tree decoration...how did I miss that one ?

    Lots of decisions and ideas to start working on, no doubt will be using this site for all the questions and all of you planning your big day!!

    Congratulations! That was a lovely way to propose, were you expecting it?

    The best sort of venues that let you do your catering yourself are Sports & Social clubs. Do you have any nice ones near you?

    I'm also a 2014 bride ? we're getting married in March though. Sadly no discount for March but it's a special date for us and we fell in love with the venue. Worth shopping around for money off though if you can get it.

    My boyfriend proposed to me on Christmas day as well! Smiley smile I too plan on being a 2014 bride, hoping for May just because it *usually* brings nice weather here in the UK...no promises though and we haven't officially set a date yet. x

    Well after looking at venues online I think I am in love! There is a place nearby that I totally forgot about until driving past today! I have been there before so know it is gorgeous, been on their website and their packages are fab! Really hoping to be able to go and look around this Sunday but if not, then soon in the new year!

    Ive also changed my mind about a buffet and think I would prefer a sit down meal and then buffet in the evening.

    This wedding planning lark is so much fun!!

    I'm going to start a new thread I think but thought I would ask it here... Does anyone have any idea when booking venues in advance how much deposit they ask for usually? I have in my head around 10%....

    Ours was around the 10% mark. Our reception is around £1.1k and we paid £100.00 to secure it x
