Super January 2012

Hello from Singapore!

Peaches, 18 October, 2008 at 11:04 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 12

We arrived in the middle of the night last night Singapore time, but it was middle of the afternoon in Houston. It's now 5 am Houston time, 11 am UK time and 6 pm Singapore time. Our bodies haven't a clue as our brains are still up in the clouds!

Mr P is just off to a dinner meeting so I've ordered room service and about to sit back and chill.

What's going on in the land of Hitched? I'm glad you're behind us in time .. makes a refreshing change! Hopefully that means I won't be here alone!

    ?

What's the hotel like? How long are you staying? And what have you got planned? I must have missed your previous posts about going there!

Nothing much happening here - waiting for H to take the dog out for a walk so I can brandish the hoover and clean the house before his friend arrives to stay for the week. But my reward is a curry this evening (and the promise I'll be left in peace to watch the X Factor repeat tomorrow morning!) ?

    Hey CBH ?

We're staying here https://www.fullertonhotels.com/ - lovely hotel which used to be the Post Office! Mind you, we've not really explored it yet as we went straight out after breakfast and on our way back got caught in a downpour, so legged it back to the room to dry off.

Oh, room service has just arrived and I'm famished as we didn't have lunch, so I'll be back in a bit after dinner!

LOL, sorry about that! Had to eat something as I was getting all wobbly - combo of hungry and jet-lagged!

How is Woody? Hope he is enjoying his walk.

We're here for a week, but I've got cabin fever already! Off to explore the hotel now I'm sated. Want to find the pool and the gym so I know where to head for tomorrow!

Don't work too hard with the cleaning. If it's a guy staying over, he won't notice anyway ?

You're probably right - why do we have such silly female pride?! ?

Check out the gym?! Check out the shops woman!! Are you mad?!

Checked out the shops this afternoon in an attempt to escape the humidity. Boy, I thought it was humid in Houston. Fark me .. it's far worse here!

Electronics galore .. and food everywhere. But no food shops that I could see. I'm after a shop where I can buy water and skimmed milk, but either I'm blind or they're hidden well!

Just checked out the pool and the gym. Verrrrrrrrry tempted to go for a swim as the pool looks so inviting and it's an infinity one overlooking the river, but I've just got back to the room and I'm buggered. Bloody long flight to get here and it's now hit me. Poor Mr P will be suffering at his dinner meeting.

I think I'll have a bath and go to bed. I'm trying too hard working out what time it is in Houston and what time it is at 'home' (UK). My head hurts now!

Enjoy the rest of your weekend with your guest ?

There is a carrefour over in suntec city, the concierge could direct you, it is not far.

There is a mall attached to the swisshotel stamford and in the basement is another supermarket. That is under 10 minutes from the Fullerton.

    HTH

    Thanks Trolly Dolly, very helpful.

You'd have thought, with the British influence, there would be a shop on every corner!

Oh, that reminds me! On the tour bus earlier I spotted an M&S! Tres excited. Will go and check it out tomorrow while Mr P is in Malaysia.

I'm off for a leisurely bath too - before I have to clean the bathroom! The rest of the house is *** and span and as R isn't arriving until 5.30, I can relax and finish my novel.

The infinity pool sounds fabulous - I'd be giving that a go during my stay I think! Have a snooze, bird, and speak again soon! ?

It was rather inviting, but the bath was just as luxurious .. probably more so as I didn't have to share it with other guests!!

I'm fighting the jet-lag and hanging on with my fingernails. I want to curl up with my book but I know I'll only last 2 minutes, so sitting up watching BBC news and on here is helping.

Glad your house is *** and span (why is *** blacked out?). I love that feeling - clean, tidy house!

You coud try Raffles Place MRT - there will be a 7Eleven in there.

Otherwise for more choice, go to Carrefour or Cold Storage. Try to get the Pura brand (has a wavy tape measure going across) if you can. If you go into any shopping centre, it is a good bet that there will be a supermarket in the basement.

    Enjoy!

    Welcome to Singapore!

There are M&Ss everywhere (a new one opened at Great World City mall this week). Other UK / international brands in Singapore include Topshop, Dorothy Perkins, Karen Millen, River Island, Warehouse, Principles, Accessorize, Zara, Mango etc etc.

If you fancy a relaxing evening, try a gold class cinema (massive reclining seats and waiter / bar service).

The Fullerton is lovely. Sunday brunch is excellent, as is the San Marco (Lighthouse).

Try getting to Little India after dark as it is lit up in the run up to Diwali on 27th.

Have a great time here and if you have any questions, let me know.

We're off to the zoo tomorrow....

M&S! Zara! God, I'm envious. I think I need a weekend in Singapore purely for shopping purposes.
