Hello! I'm new...

GeordieBarbie, 26 August, 2009 at 14:04 Posted on Planning 0 18

Hello!

I'm new to hitched. I got engaged last night so am very excited to start planning! Won't be doing too much as heading on holiday on Tuesday but once we're back, we will be starting to look for a venue.
We will be getting married in the Reading/Berkshire area early 2010 ? No doubt I will be asking for venue recommendations soon.

Hi Tizzy - where are you getting married? Have you set a date?

I live in Central Reading, not quite sure where we'll be looking yet but may go as far as Newbury area or Wokingham or a bit North. Wherever I can find the venue I want ?

I've decided I want a more traditional style of wedding - traditional as in the old fashioned traditions (not the "new traditions") so am looking for a lovely venue to get married in (not a hotel room) and then a nice country pub style place for the reception. So i'm just hunting for suitable places to ask!

I'm getting married in 9 days!! Ceremony in the Town Hall then a reception at Bradfield College, we wanted to have the whole thing at Bradfield but the West Berks registrars couldn't fit us in that day.

I didn't look at seperate venues cos that wasn't in my original plan but I did go to a reception at the Mill House Hotel earlier this year, which is more country pub style than a "normal" hotel.

If you decide on a single venue there's loads of nice places like Ufton Court or Wasing Park - I'll see if I've still got any info from my initial hunting?

Thanks for all the hellos everyone ?

It happened on 25th August in Forbury Park in Reading. We were already going into town for dinner that night (our current place of choice at the mo is Las Iguanas - good food and yummy Caipirhinas on happy hour till 9pm!) but he made me walk att the way to the station to meet him (we live right next to Las Iguanas - 5 mins walk) and then he said he wanted to walk the long way round through Forbury Gardens (made me wonder a bit but his excuse was plausable - he'd been in London all day and hadn't seen daylight and wanted some fresh air cos it was a nice evening). So we walked into Forbury Gardens and then he said he had something to ask me and pulled out the ring box with a rather impressive rock in it - I was shocked! ?

We've been together over 7.5 years and living together for 6.5 so it was on the cards but I didn't expect it there and then! ?

I do indeed have a picture as I took one to show my Mam...

Just noticed how horrible my knuckles look! ?

We will be looking at the Town Hall in Reading - I've just picked out Wokingham as they have pics on the website and it looks lovely whereas Reading don't show any pics - exactly what i'd want (I was brought up Catholic, Dad still goes to church so would like a church wedding but boyfriend is not christened so not possible) and you can use it for a drinks reception afterwards (they include champagne glasses and use of the kitchen in with the cost)

I've decided I don't want to do the "norm" and certainly can't justify spending £20000+ on 1 day - I don't think it's worth it so won't be looking anyway that tells I have to have a minimum number or a set menu or spend X amount. Hopefully there's places like that out there I just have to find it!! ? What I want is a really fun day, very relaxed and a little unusual so it's memorable to my guests.

Tis very excited although I'm not allowed to do any planning until we get back from hols so i'll be gone for a while now but back sometime after the 18th September!
