Hello! Newbie....venue questions

Poppy_24, 8 June, 2015 at 20:46 Posted on Planning 0 2

Hello!

Just wanted to introduce myself, I'm newly engaged and still on cloud nine! I'll admit, I've been lurking around for a while as I'm bridesmaid next year, now hopefully I'll be a bride too!

So, first lot of advice needed. We're starting to look at venues (two this week), what questions do I definitely need to ask, and what questions do you wish you'd asked?

Thanks!

    Hello Poppy, congratulations!

What you should consider first of all is how many guests you want to have at your wedding. There's no point in falling in love with a venue that can only hold 50 when you have 100 on your guestlist.

You also need to consider your budget, and how much you're willing to spend if you find that perfect venue. If it's above your budget you may have to decide if it's worth compromising on other things. Find out about their deposits and when payments are due. Once your venue is booked and a date set, look at getting wedding insurance.

Catering - is it in house or will you have to find a caterer? What are the prices per head and menu choices. Are there supplier meals available for photographers etc at a lower rate? Will the full price be charged for children? Consider for both the sit down meal and evening food.

Corkage - is alcohol provided or do you have to provide your own. How much is the corkage per bottle/per head?

Is it accessible for disabled guests?

Are there rooms available, and are these discounted or hired exclusively for your guests. Will there be a designated room for you to get ready in? Is there guest parking?

When do you get access to the venue to set up. The night before or the morning of the wedding? When does the hire run out (our bar shuts at 1am so that's kicking out time for non residents! the rest of us check out at 11am the next day)

Just a few ideas of what we asked!

    Thanks Calella!

We looked at a couple of venues and fell in love with one which met our needs perfectly! So I'm officially going to be a September 2016 bride!

I'm sure I'll be back with more questions over the next few months!

    Welcome to hitched!

Along with the questions already asked, I also wanted to know if the venue was exclusive hire or if other weddings would be going on in other rooms. Are there any ideas where the wedding guests will mingle? Another bride recently was annoyed that the toilets would be share with guests from others weddings.

Will there be a co-ordinator there on the day?

    Any parking/transport links

If the venue doesn't have accommodation, can there recommend somewhere nearby which they can get preferential rates at?

What are the menu options? Do guests need this included in their invites and choose beforehand? Do they get alternate drop on the night, or do they all get the same?

Is there a separate room for the wedding party use/separate disabled/larger toilet for you to use?

What is the cost of crew/suppliers meals? one venue I went to had crew meals for half the normal guest rate. I did consider an 8 piece band but weight up the band, or inviting 4 more guests, so I got a DJ and paid for 1 meal.

Cost of childrens meals and what age is a child?

What is included? Room decorations, ceiling fairy lights, centrepieces, menus, cutlery/plates, table planner stand, top table/cake table skirting?
