Hello there! - and opinions wanted

mealwe, 9 March, 2010 at 16:48 Posted on Planning 0 14

Hi to all Smiley smile

I'm new here and kinda wanted to introduce myself and also ask people's opinion!

Ever since I saw the below dress (sorry for the bad qality - I scanned it) in a magazine I though this is it should I ever get married. So now (completely surprisingly) my bf proposed and we're happily planning an October 2011 wedding. But all of a sudden I'm not sure anymore if this is the dress I want - partially also because all the dressmakers I asked so far are quoting me prices from £1000+..

So any comments would be greatly appreciated Smiley smile

I think it is very unusual and I can imagine that a dressmaker would charge you a lot of money to make it as it is so detailed

Have you though about customising the dress, taking the parts you love from this dress and comining it with a more traditional dress?

    (welcome to Hitched BTW)

If it's what you want then go for it. It's certainly very unusual. Not my taste at all however.

I walked into dress shops with a scrap book filled with dresses. Not only did i NOT try any of the styles on but I was guided by the shop assistants that I was too short in the torso for some styles, and some that I did like and tried where infact ghastly, and others which I thought ewwww were actually rather nice.

As many of the girls here can testify, you wont like it till you try it and when you try it you may not like it...so before you get your heart set on that creation GO LOOKING!

I agree with teehee - go and try some dresses on in lots of different styles, even ones you think you wouldn't be seen dead in - you may be suprised! That way you'll either find a dress, or an aspect of a dress that you like, or you'll know for sure that you want your original one.

    Hey, welcome to Hitched.

For a wedding dress, it's not my cup of tea either, but it's definitely very unique! If you've had a look round and it's definitely what you want then go for it!

Agree with teehee - you need to go try on something similar to see if it suits your body. and also try on as many other styles as possible to see what really suits you best. if you love it and you're sure, then hunt around for someone who will make it in budget. good luck! xx

If you dont want to pay for it to be made, why not try and incorporate some of the features in a shop bought dress. The high neckline for example, or a dress heavy with lace. I havent seen anything that unique by designers - and Ive looked at a lot of dresses! lol.

What is it you love most about it, that really attracted you to it?

If you truely love it then each to their own and go for it but if you are not 100%, and because its so unique and untraditional, I wouldnt want you to look back on your photos in years to come and regret it..

Thanks for all the replies - I really appreciate it!

I don't want it exactly like this but that's the closest I've ever come to a design I really like. I definitely don't want a traditional dress and I fell really uncomfortable in long dresses - not me at all. Plus, I love the fact that this is really a two piece design - so I could wear both parts again seperately.

I'll defintiely chck out the option of ordering from china - hadn't even occured to me!

If you're not 100% sure then you need to go try it on first or something similar, then you will know for sure if its for you or not. There are loads of different designs and styles out there. Try loads on and see what suits you x
